SEC tells ESPN that John Wall is facing eligibility issue
John Clay's Sidelines —
... this doesn’t look like a huge deal to me. It would depend if Wall took money knowing that his AAU coach was a certified agent. And who paid for Wall to attend those UK functions, both of which occurred well before Calipari became coach, by the way. So this issue would be present even if Billy Gillispie was still the Kentucky coach. Still, it wouldn’t surprise me if Wall has to sit 2-3 games. But that’s just a first impression.

UK sports relations director DeWayne Peevy, however, said “My understanding is that all 13 players on our roster are eligible at this point”.

There aren’t many things these days that could spoil the tidal wave of hope and anticipation that has consumed the entire state of Kentucky and Wildcat supporters the world over. But this is definitely one of them.

There are not many things that would be able to damper the enthusiasm in Lexington about the '09-'10 version of the Wildcats. One of the things that would - an ineligible John Wall. After an ESPN.com report today, it seems as if that could be a very real possibility. Wall's AAU coach, Brian Clifton, was a certified agent for FIBA up until August 2008. This is not a new piece of information, but it is one that the SEC has apparently been looking into. The issue is whether or not any benefits Wall received from Clifton could now be considered ...

John Wall having eligibility issues? ... player at Kentucky, or in the SEC. He's the best player in the country, the unanimous number one overall pick in next year's NBA draft according to most experts. And tonight ESPN is reporting there may be an issue with his eligibility. Wall's AAU coach was Brian Clifton. Clifton was a certified agent with FIBA at one point. The question is at what point did Clifton surrender his license. Clifton told CBSSports.com back in August that he gave us his license before signing any clients. ESPN is reporting that Kentucky's compliance office is looking all the way back to 2007. The ...

I think the regular readers here know how much of a fan I am of John Calipari and the University of Kentucky for hiring this pillar of the NCAA coaching community. So, of course, I'm as shocked as you are when I hear that Calipari's crown jewel of the incoming Wildcat class might not be eligible this season. We have all come to recognize AAU basketball as a place where snakes lie in the grass and use talented young players as the chips that get them rich and powerful...so none of this is surprising in the slightest. But, if Kentucky fans don't ...

A source also told ESPN.com that Kentucky has been investigating Wall’s eligibility for months because his former AAU coach was a certified agent.

... . Not only was he a non-factor in that industry (he has been quoted as saying he never even signed a client), but John Wall was a very high-profile recruit. Given the how closely the recruiting process of kids as talented as Wall is followed by fan bases and NCAA officials alike, I find it extremely unlikely that Clifton would be funneling Wall "substantial amounts" of money when he was the point man for Wall's recruitment. ...
