On the plus side, I do think there’s at least a chance that temperate wasn’t even that high on the list of collective goals. Using OPS as the measure, Utley’s second base and Burrell’s left field are the only two positions where the Phils are getting more offense in 2008 than they got in 2007. Greg Maddux, the 42 year old future Hall of Famer, was denied his 350th career victory by a pitcher who was two years old when Maddux started his major league career in 1986. Cole Hamels, now 24 years old, proved to be, at least on this night, a better pitcher than Maddux in leading the Phillies to a 7-4 win over the Padres.
