Posted: Jan. 12, 2008 Ryan Braun was fielding ground balls at third base Friday morning during a workout at Pepperdine University when he heard his cell phone ringing in the dugout. Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin was calling with news that not only would change the remainder of Braun's workout but the course of his major-league career. "When I went back out, I started taking fly ...

... have to do without him, as he'll begin serving his 25-game suspension for testing positive a second time for a banned stimulant. Cameron hit .242 with 21 homers and 78 RBIs with the San Diego Padres last year. Once Cameron returns from his grounding, last year's cannon-armed center fielder Bill Hall will likely make the move to third base, putting NL rookie of the year Ryan Braun out in left, where his defensive shortcomings won't be as obvious. Mike Cameron to Milwaukee - Best FA Signing This Year?
umpbump.com —
... The Cameron signing goes a long way in improving this shortcoming. Not only will he patrol center very capably, it appears that Ryan Braun has been asked to move to left field now that Bill Hall is free to play third once more. So now, Cameron becomes a big defensive upgrade over Bill Hall who becomes a big defensive upgrade from Ryan Braun who now becomes a below average leftfielder. Got all that? Good. ...

mvn.com 1/12/2008 — I have no doubt that the signing of Mike Cameron will make the Brewers an overall better team. The signing benefits the team on multiple levels. They get Cameron’s glove in center field and can now move Ryan Braun’s fielding problems at third base over to left field.

babeslovebaseball.com 1/13/2008 — Free agent outfielder Mike Cameron and the Milwaukee Brewers came to terms on a $7 million, one-year contract this weekend, which includes a limited no-trade clause, a $10 million club option for 2009 and a $750,000 buyout, should things not go as smoothly as expected.
Mike Cameron, Savior
skyking162.com 1/13/2008 — I’d like to nominate Milwaukee’s signing of Mike Cameron as the best free agent move of the off-season. It’s basically a one-year deal for $7 million and triggers an avalanche of changes on defense: Cameron saves 20 runs over Bill Hall in center, Hall saves 30 runs over Braun at third, and Braun should only be 10 runs worse than Gabe Gross in left. Plus, Cameron's bat has been underrated by PETCO.

baseballmusings.com 1/14/2008 — Buster Olney reports the Brewers reached an agreement with Mike Cameron. Cameron will presumably play center field for the Brewers, who have reportedly spoken with Bill Hall, the team's center fielder last year, about moving to third base. If that...
Is It Really This Easy?
brewcrewball.com 1/14/2008 — If you had told me in October that Mike Cameron could be had for a $5MM, one-year deal, I would've been spared an awful lot of thinking. Given the free-agent/trade options, this is the best possible outcome for the Brewers, and it isn't even ...
