Rinku and Dinesh Set to Debut
East Windup Chronicle —
I’ve been following the box scores of the GCL Pirates over the past week or so, waiting to see the names of Rinku and Dinesh. The closest thing I’ve found is Mpho’ Gift Ngoepe, the South African the Pirates signed last year. Incidentally, he’s 3-for-12 and is usually hitting leadoff.
But the debuts of our Indian heroes seems to be at hand and both ESPN and MLB.com have articles today. MLB.com says the pair are throwing 90, the ESPN articles says both their velocities have dropped under 90, but that has to do more with the fact that they’re regularly throwing. One thing that’s delayed their debuts is ...

The Big Lead —
Rinku and Dinesh: They’re going to be forever intertwined in baseball lore like Ruth and Gehrig (NYY, 27), Mauer and Moreanu (Twins, 09), Bonds and Bonilla (Pirates, 90), McGwire and Canseco (Oakland, 87), and Daryl and Doc (Mets 86). And they’re going to be playing in their first Gulf Coast League game soon. Will the revolution be televised in Bangalore? [Pirates.com]
Ian Snell + Sano + Links
Where Have You Gone, Andy Van Slyke? —
I had a really long post written out as an examination of the relationship between fans and bloggers and players as a result of this story about Ian Snell from an Indianapolis TV, and somehow when I went to copy and paste a line in the last paragraph, I somehow kicked open Baseball Prospectus and my post was gone. I of course hadn't even saved one draft and I don't have time to redo all of it now. What it boiled down to was this; it wasn't fair of me to assume that I knew what was going on in Ian Snell's head and essentially pasting a personality on him to match what I thought he was like from his interviews and behavior on TV. It's easy to assume that as fans, we can talk about athletes and they ...
