Singletary in the future; Martz not for Niners
Mining the Gold Rush —
I was reading Matt Barrow's blog and came upon the recent developments with Mike Singletary. Unless something goes terribly wrong on Sunday, the 49ers look to sign Singletary for next season as early as Monday. League rules does not allow interim head coaches to sign contracts during the season, and the 49ers will take the first instant they can to make sure Singletary will stick around. I am really happy about the development of the 49ers under Singletary. Not only has there been an attitude change, but the team has definitely improved since he took over. ...

... Regardless, there seems to be plenty of good news for Singletary, as Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee points out that the team may be ready to name him its head coach, removing that pesky interim tag, as soon as Sunday's game with Washington ends. The thinking is, according to Barrows, that if a number of teams fire their current head coaches, Singletary could be a wanted man, and the 49ers don't want to let that happen. ...

Mike Singletary to be Named Head Coach?
Every Morning Quarterback —
... during a meeting a couple days ago by outlining his game plan for the 49ers’ offensive and defensive future. Thus, it would seem that defensive coordinator Greg Manusky would stay and offensive coordinator Mike Martz (whose pass happy philosophy clashes with coach Singletary’s) would not. The 49ers can’t sign coach Singletary to an extension during the season, so I expect them to move quickly to sign him before other team’s come calling.
