Oddsboard If the 76ers are able to land Brand it will help them make up ground on the Nets who appear to have made some nice attempts to bolster their line up. It will be tough to lure Brand away from LA but money talks! -
chowell18 This would make the 76ers a lot more competitive in the Eastern Conference. I think it's still a longshot, but Brand would be a huge improvement at the PF position.
If the deal goes through, I would see Philly as a possible 3rd or 4th seed in the playoffs next year - preceeded by Boston & Detroit. -
Ben Q. Rock Okay, this story is getting ridiculous. We know he's going to sign with the Clippers, so just do it already. Ugh. It's like The Office with Pam and Jim, except much less awesome. Unless you're a Clipper fan, in which case it's... still less awesome.-
Ben Q. Rock ... and he signs with Philadelphia. Nice job, Nostradumbass.

Poor Sports: Bitter Philly Sports Fans Sound Off —
... ESPN claims "NBA Front Office Sources" have informed them that the Sixers are making a hard play at forward Elton Brand. In order to draw any attention from the Clippers star they'll most likely have to top the Warriors current 5 year $90 million offer. In order to make room for such a big contract, the Sixers are reportedly working out trades with Minnesota and Memphis in order to dump the contracts of Rodney Carney and Calvin Booth (much to the chagrin of Conniesmack). ...

Making A Play For Elton Brand
Depressed Fan —
Good morning, Sixers fans. I'm stressing the good in that sentence, for the time being. Here's why. ESPN is reporting that the Sixers are looking to send Rodney Carney and Calvin Booth to the Timberwolves for either cash considerations or draft picks, or both. Minnesota has a $5.2M trade exception it could use to swallow both contracts. What exactly would this mean? Well, depending on where the cap number comes in later tonight, the Sixers might just be able to offer Elton Brand a contract that starts at $15M in the first year. With the standard 8% yearly increase, that ...

... First, a word on the Joshes. There is still nothing new on Josh Childress,
but in an interesting development, it appears
the Sixers may
be in the running for Elton Brand. If that is indeed the case (you never
know when "sources" report these things), it would certainly affect Philly's
pursuit of J-Smoove. I don't lend too much credence to this rumor, mostly
because I don't see Brand leaving LA (where he has a burgeoning career as a
movie producer), but the allure of playing in the weaker Eastern Conference
could be just the carrot to draw him away. ...
Carney and Booth Out, Brand In?
Philadelphia 76ers —
... That would be the ideal blueprint for the Sixers to steal Elton Brand away from south L.A. Sources say that the Philadelphia 76ers have turned from longshot to #2 on the list in the Brand sweepstakes due to a possible deal. ESPN reports that the Sixers are close to dealing Rodney Carney and Calvin Booth to Minnesota. Since Philadelphia is under the cap, they can offer players and not receive anything in return to increase their spending money. Stealing a restricted free-agent, like Josh Smith, is almost impossible so Philly is back to ...

Sixers & Brand?
Rip City Project | A Portland Trailblazers blog —
The big "news" of the day is the Sixers supposedly being in the race for Elton Brand. The conclusion I gathered from the link is that IF a team were able to lift Brand from the Clippers it would be Philly not Golden State. I know there are people who will glance at this for two seconds and think that Brand is close to going to Philly. My opinion is that Brand won't be ditching the Clippers for Philadelphia. What am I basing that off of? Initially both Brand and his agent said this wasn't about money, it was about the Clippers getting better. Remember folks, Brand opted out of a ...

Sixers Working On Their "Brand"
Philadelphia 76ers Fan Blog —
ESPN is reporting that the Sixers are going all the way live to get Elton Brand. To facilitate matters, the Sixers have cleared even more cap space by trading Rodney Carney and Calvin Booth. I'm not really checkin' for Elton Brand, but I will say this. If the Sixers get him and he's completely healthy, then they've immediately become a second round of the playoffs team. Just one thing to note. Andre Miller and Elton Brand played together on the LA Clippers. They're chemistry wasn't exactly magical.
