... In a not-so-surprising development, John Smoltz has admitted that his shoulder continues to be sore and uncomfortable after throwing. There is no timetable for his return following this recent setback. Smoltz himself is also uncertain if rest and treatment alone will be enough to rid his shoulder of the pain. John Smoltz According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution (click here for the article), there is a chance that John Smoltz may not be returning to the Atlanta Braves at the end of May, as had originally been expected. He is still suffering from inflammation in his bicep and rotator cuff, despite having a cortisone shot and resting for 2 weeks. Smoltz is quoted in the article as saying that he could come back at in May or it could be ”a lot longer”. Upon returning, Smoltz will be pitching out of the bullpen instead of the rotation, so all owners should keep that in mind. ...

... matter of a week in order to pitch without pain, can you really be expected to contribute much? 41-year old John Smoltz needs to slow things down and rest for a while - especially now that Soriano and Gonzalez are on their way back. I am getting an eerily similar feeling here as I did with the whole Curt Schilling shoulder issue. Expect more of the same from Smoltz from here on out - one day he will feel "very good" , while 2-3 days later he will be questioning the status of his shoulder.
