There is still much we don't know about Mike Pelfrey as the 2009 season comes to a close. However, much of what seems to pass for knowledge about Pelfrey as he completes his age-25 season strikes me as ill-conceived. Let's start with the fact, espoused most vocally by Pelfrey himself -- that ...

... writing obituaries about my favorite teams while the body's still warm. I'm refraining from making any proclamations on the team's future until the season over, which leaves me alone from my thoughts. I'm just not ready yet. There's time, and still a few things to see. In the meantime, I'll pay homage to Peter King of Sports Illustrated by offering five things I think I think: I think we're collectively underestimating Mike Pelfrey. SNY's Howard Medgal recently pointed out that reports of Mike Pelfrey's demise due to the Verducci Effect may be exaggerated . It's not THE ...

In honor of today, 09.09.09, Mets by the Numbers asks you to vote for your favorite Mets player to wear No. 9.
In a post-game recap for Mets Today, Joe Janish discusses Josh Thole’s defense, talks about SNY’s Silent Sixth Inning, and slips in the following, which made me laugh:
“Jerry Manuel mentioned Buddy Bell during the SNY postgame interview while describing Tim Redding’s performance. Then I realized he said “but he battled”, not “Buddy Bell”. I always liked Buddy Bell … he was a solid hitter who hit in the clutch and was an excellent defender at the hot ...

Mike Pelfrey's Worst Nightmare

... Quick interpretation of the data - the Mets infield has ceased to be good defensively. A far cry from the Ventura-Ordonez-Alfonzo-Olerud days. It's pretty tough for a groundball pitcher to succeed in such an environment. The topic of Mike Pelfrey's supposed "regression" is a popular one, and I'm glad that others have recognized his season hasn't been as bad as many would have you think.

In case you missed it…
Last night, Jose Reyes told reporters he is working hard to get back on the field for the Mets before this season, while saying he doesn’t understand why people would question his will to return.
In a report for the Star-Ledger, in which he recaps the pre-game talk, Brian Costa writes, “Reyes wasn’t smiling. He wasn’t joking and he wasn’t laughing. He was defiant, perhaps more so than in any other public moment of his career.”
…costa is right, jose was very emotional when talking to reporters… you can read the quote ...

As the Mets fell to the Rockies 8-3 last night, you couldn’t help but wonder about the makeup of Mike Pelfrey who continues to make the case that he may never be a number two or three pitcher. As Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez pointed out last night, Pelfrey is woefully short on guts ...
What Happened To Mike Pelfrey’s Strikeout Rate?
metsmerizedonline.com 8/18/2009 — When Omar Minaya decided that Mike Pelfrey would slide into the number two spot in the rotation, many of us had raised eyebrows to say the least. Mike Pelfrey: Disappointment? Hardly.
nybaseballdigest.com 9/30/2009 — I keep hearing about what a disappointment Mike Pelfrey was in 2009. Why, Pelfrey himself will tell you how awful he was, and who would know more than him?
