 Something Foul
Here's a fun little NBA thing you can do while watching NBA basketball with friends and a Tivo: After any rebound in traffic, announce loudly "That was a FOUL!" Somebody -- a fan of the team that ended up with the ball -- will disagree. Then rewind the Tivo, and play the scene again, in slow motion. Pau Gasol Didn't Push Off to Get That Last Rebound, Okur Flopped
Published 5/15/2008 by Brett Edwards at FanHouse
Filed under: Lakers, NBA Playoffs, NBA Videos, Jazz Excellent post from Henry over at TrueHoop regarding the late game put-back from Pau Gasol that clinched the Game 5 victory for the Lakers. Like Henry, while watching it happen live, I thought Gasol pushed off, and was shocked there was no foul called. Not "angry" shocked, mind you, just "relieved" shocked, because I was rooting for the Lakers. But shocked nonetheless, because it appeared that Gasol used his forearm to shove Mehmet Okur in the lower back to be ...

Quick Thoughts 5/15

- Pau Gasol did not push off on Okur. I actually thought he did push off, and exclaimed as much over at Fanhouse's live blog, and was relieved the foul wasn't called, but this excellent post by the venerous Henry Abbot has caused me to change my mind. - Destiny. This word gets thrown around a lot around this time. One proper use of it might have been yesterday, when Utah had about 10 chances to take the lead, but fell short each time. If the Jazz lose this series, this loss will be fairly haunting over the summer. ...

No Foul, All Flop: Okur and Gasol in the Los Angeles Lakers Game 5 Win Over the Utah Jazz
Published 5/16/2008 by David Neiman at SportsHubLA
For the last 48 hours, on local and national TV, pundits — for the most part — have been crying foul on Pau Gasol, whose putback in the waning seconds of the Western Conference seminfinals’ Game 5 sealed the win for Los Angeles. The only notable exceptions to this are Henry Abbott of TrueHoop and color commentator Doug Collins of TNT, who got the call right at the time. Two video clips follow. A few notable details about them: 1. While Pau’s forearm is positioned on Okur’s back, you never seen Pau push forward with it. The second the ball comes off the rim, Pau’s arms go ...

Postcards From LA, Vol. 9: One Lakers Fan Tracks His Team Through the NBA Playoffs

Women? They come and go – particularly LA women. On to the next one. But a Lakers’ loss at home in Game 5 to Utah? Now that would have been hard to recover from. It was difficult to watch – in fact, my dental appointment went smoother, but The Purple and Gold found a way to secure a 111-104 victory over the Jazz. And that’s what serious title contenders do: win the ugly ones.

Lakers regain their swagger with a close win

Kobe needed some extra help from his teammates to squeeze out a win but at the end of the day his teammates were the difference. Bryant ended with 26 points and 7 assists and on several occasions his back looked pain-free. Bryant scored the first 5 points and took a fade away similar to the one he took in Game 4 that got his back hurt – clearly a good sign for Lakers fans everywhere. Bryant ...
