The Dodgers are close to acquiring Casey Blake for a package including Carlos Santana. Smooth. This is going to be great for when I'm always frickin' working on Sunday night . My favorite part of this story is that the NBA may have applied for a patent and misspelled what they were patenting. Labels: Links of the Day

Sadly, Thunder Is One Of OKC’s Better Name Options
Published 7/27/2008 by Harvey Bars at Tirico Suave
There’s an 83.33% chance that the former Seattle Sonics are going to have an absolutely terrible nickname when they relocate to Oklahoma City next season. Here are the name options that NBA has filed for trademark rights to: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind. I’m not sure who was in charge of coming up with possible team names, but both you and I are better at our jobs than he/she is at their’s. Oklahoma City Barons is ...

... And Oklahoma City is apparently considering the following nicknames: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind.  Oh… please be the last one.  I can’t wait for their first blowout loss, followed by the headline: “Celtics Break Wind”.  And if you didn’t think the fix was in to move that team out of Seattle before… you might ...

They are: Marshalls Barons Bison Energy ...

Oklahoma City Thunder/Marshalls/Energy/Wind/Barons/Bison

There have been reports here or there that the team that used be knows as the SuperSonics would be called this or that. They are mostly based on anonymous sources, or some evidence that somebody or other registered this or that web address. I'm holding out for some better, more solid information before I rename that category over there on the right. An alert TrueHoop reader (thanks Todd) ...

The Oklahoma City Robber Barons
After an exhaustive search of available team names by the NBA’s marketing firm (Dull & Bland) six possible names for the Oklahoma City Sonics have been proposed. Drum roll please. Thunder. Bisons. Energy. Marshalls. Wind. Barons. I have this theory a stoner came up with the names. Picture David Stern in his office as Jason, a 22 year old intern, comes in to pitch the choices. ...
Poll, part II: What should Oklahoma City's nickname be?
The NBA didn't like that Mark Rodgers and the KOCO-TV crew had leaked word that the Oklahoma City team name was going to be Thunder, so they went and registered five other names to keep us on our toes. The six names filled for trademark: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind. Otherwise known as: Meh, Blah, Ha, Spell Check Please , Hmph and Ugh. But that's my crack fox opinion, ...
The Oklahoma City name game narrows
Well the future name of the Oklahoma City NBA franchise has been narrowed down to six. In case you missed it they are as follows: Barons, Marshalls, Thunder, Wind, Energy and Bison . Okay so it could be a lot worse but none of those names really are that great. I have never been to Oklahoma so I have no idea which name actually represents the city that well. There is a rumour floating around ...
Oklahoma City Thunder?? Not so fast...
A week ago it seemed certain that the new Oklahoma City franchise was to be named Thunder. Not so much anymore (damn you Oklahoman). USA Today reported that the NBA has filed for rights to six potential nicknames for Oklahoma City . Those six nicknames would be Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind. Color me even more unimpressed. At least Thunder won a mythical, mystical ...
Why not just call them Mariah?
The NBA filed for trademarks on six nicknames for Oklahoma City's new franchise, The Oklahoman reported on Friday. Citing the United States Trademark and Patent Office, the newspaper said that the league filed for a trademark on Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind . I would also suggest they find a large dust bowl as a mascot.
Fun with Oklahoma City Nicknames
I remember in 1997 when my hometown’s franchise (now the Wizards ) was in the process of choosing a new nickname to replace the old moniker Bullets. Oh, how odd those name choices sounded: Dragons, Express, Stallions, Sea Dogs, and Wizards. Those were the five name choices according to Wikipedia, but I remember Monuments being a sixth option, which I had wanted the team to choose. ...
NBA: Oklahoma City Misspellings?
The NBA didn't like that everyone figured out that the Oklahoma City team name is the Thunder, so they went and registered 5 other names: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls and Wind. Barons is OK, if not sympathetic in tough economic times. Bison is regionally appropriate, but lame. Energy is trendy, but falls flat. ("Alternative Energy" would have been awesome.) Wind is the worst name I have ...
The OKC answer is blowin' in the wind?
The NBA today filed for rights to six nicknames for the Oklahoma City franchise. The names are Barons, Energy, Bisons, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind. Wind?! Wind is such a horrible team nickname that it makes Energy seem cool. Obviously the team nickname doesn't have any influence on how good the team is, but it would be hard to seem intimidating with either of those two choices. And please ...
