Hornets Not Going to Draft??
Published 6/25/2008 by ticktock6 at Hornets Hype
According to ESPN, trading the #27 pick to Portland tomorrow for cash. Oh, see, this is kinda lame if it’s true. We couldn’t get anything interesting for it? At all? I don’t know anything about anything, but the Hornets were still bringing guys in for workouts today. What about all the money they wasted on that? The Hornets rarely bore me. But this bores me. I am terribly bored.

The power of the dollar. An interesting grab for Kevin Pritchard and the Blazers. As Chad Ford reports: The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Hornets to acquire the 27th pick in the draft for cash considerations, a Blazers source told ESPN.com. The deal was agreed to verbally between the two teams on Tuesday night, according to the source. The teams have scheduled a trade call with the league in the morning to make the deal official. [snip] It's unclear who the Blazers are eyeing at No. 27. One possibility is Croatian big man Ante Tomic, who the ...

Blazers Buy Another PIck

... As OdenRoyLMA has pointed out in the sidebar the Blazers are apparently buying the 27th pick from the Charlotte Hornets according to this story.  Interesting stuff, especially since it means taking on another guaranteed contract.  Is this a move to get another player or a move to add weight to a trade?  Or do the Blazers just buy every pick that comes available on principle alone? ...

... of buzz around any late round Euro sleepers. I kinda like John Hollinger's stat crunching. You can bet that Ainge has some stat guys of his own. As long as you take it with a grain of salt. It is one measure of a player's worth, not the whole deal. I think I bumped up Darrell Arthur on my "guys I like" list because of the stats. Still, while Kevin Love looks great by Hollinger's numbers, he looks like a big soft bust to my eyes. I don't know who's right but I wouldn't bet on me. The Blazers just bought the 27th pick. Wait, I thought they had too many players. Coming a ...

... I originally wasn't planning on doing a Mock NBA Draft but I figured since I have been following the draft so closely I might as well take a shot at one. Just don't give me any grief if I'm wrong. For anyone who doesn't know, the Hornets traded pick # 27 to Portland and the Nuggets traded pick # 20 to the Bobcats, which was Denver's only pick in the whole draft. Interesting moves that definitely throw a few wrinkles into the late first round. Also, the Jermaine O'Neal to Toronto for T.J Ford trade is complete now, so the Pacers have the #11 and #17 ...

... . The ground rules: this mock is less a prediction about what I think teams will do and more about what I would do as GM for each team. Although I anticipate that trades will change the draft order, perhaps radically, my interest is in matching players and teams. Therefore I keep the teams in their given draft order but highlight spots where I expect trades. (In other words, I’m notoriously bad at this so I’m trying to hedge as best I can.) Note: ESPN.com is reporting a deal involving New Orleans trading its 27th overall selection to Portland for cash considerations. So I ...

The NBA: Now With 30% Less Euro

With the NBA Draft occuring tonight, here are some last minute thoughts and questions on what's going on: What are the Blazers going to do with all them picks? Really, the Blazers just went out and brought the 27th pick yesterday from the Hornets?  Sidenote:  What the hell is with the Hornets being so cheap?  They now have no picks this draft, and selling a late first round pick (hello Suns) is generally an iffy proposition.  Yes, you save money, and it is fiscally smart, plus it keeps your roster flexible.  ...

Portland and Paul Allen are up to their old tricks, buying draft picks outright.  The Blazers paid the maximum $3M for the Hornets' first rounder, number 27 in the draft.  This one is a head-scratcher.  Not that Paul Allen is willing to throw is Micro-bucks around - we knew that.  But Portland has a MASSIVE roster crunch looming next season.  They have Rudy Fernandez coming over from Spain, they have Kopenen stashed in Finland, they have Freeland stashed in England, they have extra picks already, and now they just bought another one.  ...
