 Source: Bonds-Yankees Deal Imminent
Embattled former Giants slugger Barry Bonds has entered into formal contract negotiations with the Yankees, and a consummation of the deal is anticipated forthwith, a confidential clubhouse source told MLBNewsOnline.com. The deal, being hammered out between Bonds' agent Jeff Borris and general manager Brian Cashman , will well exceed the major league $200,000 minimum but has a number of ... [link]

Richie Sexson, not Barry Bonds, will be your newest Yankee
Published 7/17/2008 by 'Duk at Big League Stew
This morning, a blog I had previously never heard of — MLB News Online — posted an item saying that Barry Bonds and the Yankees were close to a deal and that it was "anticipated forthwith."  I didn't put much stock into the site's "confidential clubhouse source" and that was before my Y! Sports colleague Tim Brown backed up my hunch with good evidence. While sniffing out the report's validity (or lack thereof), Brown was told by Bonds' agent Jeff Borris that the rumor was "not true." ...

... Hey, it’s not like I’ve ever been steered wrong before by MLBnewsonline.com. OK, so I’ve never actually seen MLBnewsonline.com until today.  That’s not to say the site might not have some highly credible sources, the sort that would prefer to communicate with the mysterious “Bronx Bomber” than say, Peter Gammons or Ken Rosenthal.  Prepare to TOPPLE, MSM, it’s the dawn of a whole new era in making shit up sports journalism. ...

Clarification on Barry Bonds' 'Talks' with Yankees
Published 7/17/2008 by Greg Fieg (noreply@blogger.com) at MLB Rumors by MLBnewsonline.com
The Bronx Bomber's report that former Giants outfielder Barry Bonds is in contract negotiations with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman comes from a source within the Yankees organization, though not through conventional channels. The variously reported denials eminating from the office of Bonds' agent Jeff Borris give us pause, but the world of free agent signings and negotations, historically being one of thrusts and parries, blocks and feints, cannot absolutely be taken at face value. There is no intent here to cast aspersion ...

The All-Star Game was exciting. I think we all know what made the difference for the AL. Adam Ottavino, future ace. This Liriano situation is very entertaining. I understand how it's a tough decision for Bill Smith; it's not like he has Livan Hernandez in his rotation or anything. Well, this was successful. Greg Norman was 500:1 to win the tournament before the British Open. Then he shot 70, and was 100:1. Then he shot a 70 again, and now he's 20:1. This would make for some good TV on Sunday ...

…. About time
Published 7/18/2008 by John at Only Baseball Matters
Seems like Barry Bonds might be swinging a bat again: Embattled former Giants slugger Barry Bonds has entered into formal contract negotiations with the Yankees, and a consummation of the deal is anticipated forthwith, a confidential clubhouse source told MLBNewsOnline.com. I’ve read nothing significant about this in the NY paper…. well, by nothing, I mean, nothing but reporters asking Cashman if he’s considering signing Bonds, and Cashman saying something like, “We’re considering all possibilities ...

Sign Bonds

I've been against this idea for a while, but over the past few days I've been thinking about it and made a complete 180 on the idea. The Yankees should definitely sign Barry Bonds. Before responding, ask yourself this question; Do you want the Yankees to make the postseason or not? Then remind yourself that Andy Pettitte (a cheater) and Jason Giambi (a cheater) are on the roster, and two fan ...

Yankees call Bonds rumor nonsense
When Internet reports about the New York Yankees negotiating with Barry Bonds kicked in Thursday, phones buzzed in the Yankees' corridors of power. But there's no truth to a pinstriped pursuit of Bonds, according to a Yankee official, who said, "It's all nonsense." The rumors even made their way down to Wall Street, the official said. The official had calls from friends who work ...
Cashman Says: No Bonds
Despite numerous reports yesterday that the Yankees were in the process of negotiating a deal with Barry Bonds, GM Brian Cashman reiterated his position on the matter saying, " We have had no discussions regarding Barry Bonds." Check out MLBnewsonline.com where, this morning they are still standing by the story and citing an unnamed source inside the Yankee organization as their source.
Bonds To Boston? No Way, No How
Rumors of Barry Bonds playing in Boston have bared no fruit thus far. Here's several reasons why it likely won't ever happen. It all started on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball during the Red Sox/Yankees game on July 6, when Hall of Fame reporter Peter Gammons informed the viewing audience that the Sox have had "internal discussions" about signing the once immortal Barry Bonds, ...

Yankees Reach Tentative Agreement with Sexson
The Yankees, who have no interest in Barry Bonds * , have reached a tentative agreement with Seattle send-off Richie Sexson. Before his release, Sexson was hitting .218 with 11 homers this year, but was hitting .344 against lefties. This sounds like a move the Dodgers would make - using success against lefties to justify the signing of sub-.220 hitter - but the Yankees beat them to it.  ...
Sexson the City
The Yankees reach an agreement with Richie Sexson, not Barry Bonds. The Yankees plan on using Sexson exclusively against lefties. His line against southpaws this year is .344/.423/.623. I guess this doesn't rule out signing Bonds, the two could platoon...

I think it's B.S., but who knows: Source: Bonds-Yankees Deal Imminent The incentive-laden deal, being hammered out between Bonds' agent Jeff Borris and general manager Brian Cashman, will well exceed the major league $200,000 minimum but has a number of protective clauses to isolate the Yankees' exposure to the possibility of Bonds missing time due to legal distractions or recurring injury, ...

Matsui injury means Yanks may consider Bonds
Will Hideki Matsui 's bum knee cause the New York Yankees to hit the Bonds market? Should Matsui require surgery and be lost for the year — a realistic possibility after he suffered a setback Tuesday — the Yankees would almost certainly need to bring in another bat for the DH spot. Uh-oh! Hideki Matsui might be facing-season ending knee surgery . Johnny Damon has also had a setback in his recovery from a shoulder injury. Here is what Cashman said Tuesday about Bonds. “I would say any rampant ...
Blackballing Barry
Brian Cashman is making a point of not denying the possibility that the Yankees might sign Barry Bonds. What I can't figure out is why no one else has tried. As far as I can tell he hasn't officially retired. It's that no team has offered him much money to play baseball. My impression was that last year he was starting to look washed up, and there was the chronic and ultimately season-ending ...
Barry Bonds: Blackballed!
How can the game’s most prolific home run hitter have a clean bill of health and a desire to play, but none of baseball’s 30 teams are interested in his services? Here’s my take on it. Barry Bonds must be kicking himself.
