Redsauce Having him on our team will put my colon through the ringer...
Couldn't resist the pun...

allonthefield I suppose it's a pretty low-risk gamble, but this moves seems superfluous; with Beckett, Lester, Bucholz, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, and Schilling already in the fold, why add a guy like Colon? From everything I've read, his best days are behind him.-
Patrick There is a chance that Schilling has throw his last pitch of his career, which was probably the main driver of this trade for the Red Sox.

Bartolo Is Worth a Flyer
ShysterBall —
While the Mets pat themselves on the back for picking up the guy who came in third for the 2005 AL Cy Young Award, the Red Sox swooped in and signed the guy who beat him out! The purpose of the previous sentence is to remind you in this election year that it's possible for a person to be full of crap even when they say something that is 100% true. Anyway, I think Colon is definitely worth signing to the kind of deal the Sox are apparently giving him. As U.S.S. Mariner's Dave Cameron noted back in October, there are many good reasons to ...

South Side Sox —
... Elsewhere, Bartolo Colon apparently signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox, for reasons that escape me. It seemed like the White Sox were willing to give him a major league deal a few weeks ago, and may have been close to signing him last week. The Red Sox clearly have a more major league ready starters in camp right now. Colon would seem to be, at best, their 6th option right now. Red Sox Monster —
Well, that didn't take long, did it? Based on the initial response of the blogosphere to the Red Sox signing Bartolo Colon, we all had to realize there were going to be some snickers. The man, after all, has been out of baseball for quite some time, and the butt of jokes for a number of years, besides. Still, the reaction to him arriving in camp today was a bit surprising, if only because it's so mixed. Take the thoughts of The Boston Globe's Gordon Edes , for example: (Pitching coach John) Farrell was less impressed that Colon showed up at camp looking like he was auditioning for the Biggest Loser.
