BadenBall Being a diehard Hawks fan, I can't begin to tell you how much I love this move. Warner is going to get eaten up by our defensive ends. I can't imagine that age has helped his mobility too much.
Leinart Really Wants to Lose This Job -- UPDATE
The Sporting Blog —
... Saturday, and has been terrible at it through his NFL career. If Saturday didn't change Whisenhunt's mind, at this pace the switch will come within the next month.
Warner didn't really get a shot to flex his arm, passing only four times. But you know what you're getting with Kurt. With Leinart? Well I suppose you also know what you're getting. But it's not something Arizona fans should want.
UPDATE: Pound the salt, but ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Leinart has in fact lost his job to Warner.
REPORT: LEINART LOSING HIS GIG
ProFootballTalk.com —
As it turns out, four completions and three interceptions in the team’s third preseason game are enough to get the Cardinals to make a change at the top of the quarterback depth chart. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Cards are expected to name Kurt Warner the starting quarterback for the start of the 2008 regular season. An unnamed source told Mort that “Leinart’s training-camp performance has been uneven, and the Cardinals are concerned about his arm strength and consistency.” Leinart was the tenth overall pick in the 2006 draft, selected seven spots after Vince ...
Mort's Source: Warner to Start Over Leinart
FanHouse —
Filed under: AZ Cardinals, NFC WestESPN Scoopmaster Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Cardinals are going to enter the 2008 season with Kurt Warner as their starting quarterback ... not Matt Leinart. Obviously, Leinart's case for backup QB last night was part of the decision (if the decision has been made, we all know that sometimes Mort likes to throw stories up before anyone else), but not the sole reason: The source said Leinart's training-camp performance has been uneven, and the Cardinals are concerned ...
Cardinals Will Start Warner Over Leinart
Football Outsiders —
Cardinals Will Start Warner Over Leinart So much for first-round, glamour-boy quarterbacks in the NFC West. The Cardinals have decided to start Kurt Warner over Matt Leinart, a move seemingly cemented by Leinart’s performance against the Raiders on Saturday. Leinart completed four of 12 passes for 24 yards and three interceptions, but the Cards still won, 24-0. With Leinart and fellow former first-rounder Alex Smith riding the pine, the division’s starting quarterbacks are three sixth-rounders (J.T. O’Sullivan, Marc Bulger, Matt Hasselbeck, none of whom were drafted by their ...
Leinart Expected to be Backing Up Warner

... played it cool, not letting on as to who would be named the starter:
“I know Matt’s down because he didn’t play as well as he would have liked,” Whisenhunt said. “This competition, being pushed by Kurt, has made Matt tougher. It’s one of the things you have to be as a quarterback.”
If by tougher he means shittier, I totally get his point.

What do NFL GMs want at QB?
Hotdog & Friends —
... More heartening news on this front coming out of Arizona of all places, where QB of the future Matt Leinart has lost his starting gig to Kurt Warner. Why? Because Kurt Warner consistently outproduces Leinart, and that is all that should matter. Does this mean Leinart is damaged goods and should never get another shot in the NFL? No! The NFL more than any other pro sport changes so much from year to year that your only concern should be to win right now. ...

IS IT TOO EARLY TO CALL MATT LEINART A BUST?
Epic Carnival —
by WCT, The Ship of Fools It looks like Kurt Warner is going to beat out Matt Leinart for the Arizona Cardinals' starting QB job. Again. Leinart, who won 1 BCS title at USC, played for a second, won the 2004 Heisman Trophy, and was a 2006 1st round draft pick, has now been beaten out by the 37-year-old journeyman three years in a row. Now as he enters his third year as a pro, at what point do we start to use the "B" word for Leinart? At what point do we start to examine the possibility that he may have been a creation of ...

The Resurrection of Kurt Warner
Sports - Pancake Blocks —
[image] Let's assume that Mort got this one right , which can be dangerous. The local Phoenix rags support the notion that Kurt Warner will be the man in Week 1. Ken Whisenhunt is making a major statement here about Leinart. The coach wasn't around to draft him, and doesn't believe in him. Warner hasn't even played well in the preseason, and is bound to get hurt eventually. The Cardinals will need Leinart, but the Heisman winner is dangerously treading towards Alex Smith territory by getting benched. Fantasy leaguers must now decide: How high is Kurt Warner's ...
