BadenBall Obviously it would be hard to say NO to "50 million dollars (think Dr. Evil here.)" But, this would be a huge blow to the NBA game and its fan base, which in recent years has slowly been on the upswing thanks largely in part to class acts like LBJ, Dwade, CP3, and so on. To lose Lebron would surely send the NBA reeling again.-
mookie Mr Stern will find a way to avert disaster. He's been a shrewd businessman from the get-go and I don't see him sitting on his hands if one of his key products were to walk away... remember the "Larry Bird exception"? Perhaps there could be a "LeBron James exception" entering the CBA...

EthanJaynes So........... Are yall trying to give Carolyn Hastings a heart attack, or what?
There is no way this goes down.
-
mookie Gotta agree with you Ethan... in fact I laugh a little in my mouth every time I read these headlines... I bet Kobe and LeBron do too and play dares.
LeBron: Key Kobe, I dare you to say you'll play in Russia for $40m.
Kobe: Okay King James, but only if you say you'll go to Uzbekistan for $50m!
-
mookie Oh yeah, and Carolyn, don't worry... there's no way LeBron's going to Europe. He's already got his deal with the Nets sewn up!! ;)

Oddsboard Absolutely no chance, we all understand it's about the money but LeBron already has enough money through his contract and endorsements that will last him a lifetime. Could he possibly be that greedy? Who knows but he will land a huge contract in the states and yes, most likely in NY or NJ. If they win the Gold he will be a big part of it and become a national hero and there is just no way he ends up in Europe down the road.
-
BadenBall I completely agree, my comments were more really food for thought. LBJ is already a millionaire 1000 times over with all his commercial endorsements. Plus, in all honesty, I think he would get bored dunking on all the Euros day in and day out. It's mostly the benchwarmers that are jumping ship, and I have no ill will for these guys, they are taking care of their families for generations to come. USA for gold!!!

AEM LeBron going to Europe? Well it would be probably be better than playing in some foreign city like Cleveland, no?
Sorry C, couldn't resist that one (lol).
On the other hand, I would not be surprised one bit if Europe becomes like the USFL, that not many will ever think about going, but somehow they lure 3-4 stars away from the NBA.

And One Couldn't understand a word you said; I only speak Clevelandese.

santiago23 I understand how difficult it would be to deny a 50 mill offer, but players would be leaving several of their fan base and tougher competition. oh well the choice is up to them. David Stern - this is your nightmare slowly coming true.
Flirting with the Guys with the Deep Pockets
ESPN.com - TrueHoop —
Did you see Kobe Bryant joking with reporters that he would play in Russia for $40 million a season? Then there is word that LeBron James would consider playing overseas for $50 million? Josh Childress' signing with Olympiacos has changed the way people think and talk about contracts. There are, several agents have told me in the last few days, at least six or seven teams in Europe with extremely deep pockets, and a willingness to spend. Couple that with a total lack of a salary cap, and a role model in Childress for giving it a ...

Forget Brooklyn and Manhattan, LeBron James would consider playing in Europe after his contract runs out with the Cleveland Cavaliers before the 2010 season. Are we sure he doesn’t want the rest of the country thrown in, or a crown and throne for King James? Beyond ridiculous and deserving ridicule. This isn’t about talent or championships — of which he ...
