Avery's gotta go to Phoenix, that makes too much sense at this point. The Suns no longer excel as a fast paced team and they need to have a good defensive coach. Besides, how perfect would it be for them to finally defeat the Spurs w/ their former point guard at head coach?

Filed under: Knicks, Bulls, Mavericks, Dallas, Breaking NewsIntrepid ESPN.com scribe/Dallas resident Marc Stein has the inevitable scoop: Avery Johnson has been canned by Mark Cuban today. Stein also reports (as he did early this morning) that Cuban considered firing Avery before the playoffs started, which sounds so insane it might actually be true. Fear not, Johnson Family. Avery Johnson Fired

... So apparently I can predict the future.  Avery Johnson and the Dallas Mavericks decided to part ways today.  I mean I knew he was going to be fired…but this quick (maybe it did go down like this)?  Cuban could have at least shown the man a little respect and given him a week.  But we all know that that isn’t Mark Cuban’s way.  So who is the best coach for this team now?  If D’Antoni is fired like it is reported, I can see him being the perfect fit for this team.  I mean they were the Suns before the Suns were the ...

Avery Johnson shown the door
Published 4/30/2008 by Joe Boikess at Showboating
... According to numerous online outlets, the Dallas Mavericks fired head coach Avery Johnson on Wednesday afternoon, kicking off a likely substantial roster overhaul this summer. Despite his solid regular season record (194-70) and the fact that he took the Mavericks to the NBA Finals for the first time ever, his recent postseason failures are likely what did him in. Since going up 2-0 in the 2006 Finals, the Mavericks have gone an unimpressive 3-12 in the playoffs. ...

Mark Cuban Fires Avery Johnson, Should’ve Been Jason Kidd
Published 4/30/2008 by Dave at Sports Blog - football, basketball, and baseball
... Mark Cuban may be getting a bit rash in some his thought process while actively pursuing an NBA Title. First, he traded Devin Harris — a good, young player who could play defense and offense with energy and sprite — for Jason Kidd, an old guy who hits his wife and isn’t very good anymore. Now he’s decided it’s best to fire Avery Johnson. Johnson leaves with an impressive résumé after three-plus seasons, but Mavs owner Mark Cuban couldn’t tolerate a bottom line of being 3-12 in the playoffs since blowing a 2-0 ...

... The Mavs fired coach Avery Johnson today. This was a no-brainer for me. I have never thought of him as an elite coach, yet he was in charge of a high payroll team with championship potential. Avery Johnson: Fired By The Dallas Mavericks
Published 4/30/2008 by Jeanette at RightFielders Women in Sports
Avery Johnson was fired by the Dallas Mavericks today on the heels of the Mavs’ loss last night to the New Orleans Hornets. It is the second year in a row that they could not move past the first round of the playoffs. The Mavericks had a 3-12 record in the playoffs since the 2006 NBA finals. Who could forget the Golden State Warriors sending the Mavs on their way in the first round last year, which has gone down as one of the biggest upsets in NBA history. This time around, they were sent packing in five games by the New Orleans Hornets. Johnson’s record with the Mavericks ...
