HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN FOR ORTON
ProFootballTalk.com —
Media reports suggest that Bears quarterback Kyle Orton will miss one month with a high ankle sprain . Officially, the team is awaiting the results of a Monday MRO before making any comments about Orton’s condition. If Orton misses a month, Rex Grossman will get the nod for upcoming games against the Titans, Packers, Rams and Vikings. The only other quarterback on the roster is rookie Caleb Hanie. The 5-3 Bears lead the NFC North by one game over the 4-4 Packers and 4-4 Vikings.

... We won, but it was really ugly. I wish I was as optimistic as WCG. I saw a defense that was uninspired and didn’t know how to execute. I saw an offense that was great at times and bad at others. Devin Hester fumbled, and the usually stellar Brad Maynard had a fourteen-yard punt. And, Orton’s out for a month. Bad day. ...

... to turn to Rex Grossman, I think it severely lessens their chances of winning the NFC North. Rex filled in OK this afternoon (9-of-19 for 58 yards, a TD and an INT), but he’s backing-up Kyle for a reason. He’s not as good. And he’s a streaky quarterback who will eventually let you down. At least that’s what he’s proven in the past. This afternoon’s lackluster performance was a perfect example against the NFL’s worst defense.

Dallas tight end Jason Witten suited up despite the broken rib he suffered last weekend. But that did not mean too much because neither of Dallas’ quarterbacks — Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger — could get him the ball. And he did not look all too comfortable out there in the first place.
Hit the jump for the rest of the weekend’s casualties.

... it says that Chicago was a winner yesterday and Green Bay was a loser. That means the Bears are 5-3 and all alone in first place, while the Packers are 4-4 and tied with Minnesota for second. But who looked like eventual division champions? It was the Packers, who took the previously undefeated Titans to overtime on the road. Meanwhile, the Bears were tested by the winless Lions, and more critically lost quarterback Kyle Orton -- one of this season's best stories so far -- probably for a month with a high ankle sprain (Chicago Tribune). Welcome back Rex Grossman. THE UGLIEST ...
