Ben Q. Rock That's a lot of Baconators. -
brockforbroglio With the combination of his youth/production he should've demanded at least $200M.M
I've watched him come up and win a world series back in 2003. He's had an amazing young career.

allonthefield I think I'd rather have Cabrera than A-Rod over the next eight years, so $19 million per season is a pretty sweet deal for the Tigers.

Miguel Cabrera to sign huge contract extension
Lone Star Ball —
... ESPN is reporting that the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera have agreed to a contract extension worth $153.3 million over 8 years.
The story says that Cabrera will get $11.3 million in 2008, and $19 million per year thereafter, but the numbers don't really work out that way, so we'll have to see once we get a clarification.
However...this is a very good deal for the Tigers, who get one of the best hitters in baseball through his age 32 season for what is, all in all, a pretty reasonable amount. The length isn't such a big issue, given Cabrera's age, and $19 ...

... According to ESPN.com, the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera are closing in on a eight year deal worth 153.5 million dollars. "Miguel just signed a big contract," said the source. "The contract will be completed when Miguel takes a physical on Monday." This is an excellent deal for the Tigers who lock up Cabrera while he is entering his prime. Cabrera, who lost at least twenty pounds this off season, still hit 34 homeruns last season. Playing in the lineup he is in now, he should have a higher average and more homeruns. I have been going back in forth in my ...

Miguel Cabrera Reportedly Agrees to $153 Million Extension
Bucs Dugout —
The Tigers and Miguel Cabrera have reportedly agreed on an eight-year, $153.3 million contract. Cabrera's obviously a great player, but it can be tough to put these huge contracts into context. Only three contracts in MLB history have been bigger than this one. Alex Rodriguez's went from being a boondoggle to, ultimately, being such a good deal for the Yankees that Rodriguez opted out of it; Derek Jeter's hasn't been a problem, but it might seem to be if he played for a poorer team; and Manny Ramirez's was so bad that the Red Sox once put him on ...

... and, for those of you who still harbored dreams of Miguel Cabrera joining Albert in our lineup, Detroit has apparently signed him to an 8 year, $153 million contract. According to the report, he would receive just over $11 M this year and then $19 M for the next 7 years. This strikes me, at first glance, as a very good contract for the Tigers. First of all, he’s only 24 and could conceivably become the premier hitter in the AL during the next 8 years. Hell, it might happen this year. Consider the fact that A-Rod is 32 now and set to earn an average of $27.5 M for the next ...
HERE'S WHY YOU MAKE THE CABRERA DEAL
SPORTS UNFILTERED —
... If you're the Halos, you get a 24-year-old 3B (a positional void since '05) who posted a line of .320/34/119/.966 OPS last year. You apparently have the ability to sign him to a contract that is at market-value (currently), and will be below market-value when his contract ends. You capitalize on the strength of your current lineup, while building for the future. You may/or may not get a pitcher that is an innings eater that could get you 12+ wins at the back-end of your rotation despite a high ERA and WHIP. As opposed to the one you traded your shortstop and clubhouse leader ...

As for Cabrera, there will no doubt be some -- ...

Mitch Lichtman, one author of The Book: Playing the Percentages in Baseball, reacted early on in the Baseball Musings comments.
