Could the Cubs really be this stupid?
Another Cubs Blog —
... Ken Rosenthal says it’s still a longshot, but the Cubs are discussing a potential 3-team trade that would send Milton Bradley to the Blue Jays, Lyle Overbay to the Mets and Luis Castillo to the Cubs. This has to be a fucking joke. Luis Castillo isn’t even as good as a platoon of Fontenot and Baker. I’m not even going to get into how unfair a trade it is to send Bradley away and get only Luis Castillo in return. ...
Bradley Being Discussed In Three-Way Deal
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com —
... A very interesting idea is being reported by Ken Rosenthal: a three-way deal, with Milton Bradley going to the Blue Jays, Luis Castillo to the Cubs, and Lyle Overbay to the Mets. Rosenthal said "The teams indeed have discussed the framework of such a deal, though not in
direct fashion, according to major-league sources." ...
Mets Castillo being discussed in 3 team deal
MetsCitiBlog —
According to Ken Rosenthal, he is reporting that the Mets are discussing the basic idea of a three team deal to send Castillo out and essentially bring in Lyle Overbay. Milton Bradley would also be in the deal. The idea behind such a trade would be that Overbay could platoon with either Daniel Murphy or Nick Evans as part of a strong duo. This is certainly very early in the framework, but it is a lead in as to what the team is thinking. Clearly, get Castillo out and most likely bring in the long wanted, Orlando Hudson

... the Rockies. McCoy "hit .307 in 2009 with 27 doubles, five triples, 102 runs scored and 40 stolen bases" in the PCL. He seems to consistently get on base at a good rate (.405 in '09), a skill that he's demonstrated most seasons in his minor league career, which has gone from the Cardinals organization, to Baltimore, to Colorado, and now here. He seems like pretty solid depth pickup, I'd say. Elsewhere, Kenny Ken Ken Rosenthal's power of the written word is suggesting over at Fox Sports (via MLBTR) that the Jays have been a part of discussions on a three-team trade ...
Rumor: 3-Way Deal… Casting off Castillo?
The Real Dirty Mets Blog —
... According to Ken Rosenthal’s sources, the Cubs, Blue Jays, and Mets have discussed the possibility of a three way trade. The Cubs would sent Milton Bradley (2 years/$21m) to the Blue Jays, the Mets would send Luis Castillo (2 years/$12m) to the Cubs, and the Jays would send Lyle Overbay (1 year/$7m) to the Mets. ...

According to Ken Rosenthal

Calling the deal a long shot he said:
“The teams indeed have discussed the framework of such a deal, though not in direct fashion, according to major-league sources.

Report: Bradley talks involve Blue Jays, Mets, Rays
Circling The Bases —
[image] FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal said Monday that the Cubs and Mets have discussed a deal that would send Milton Bradley to New York for Luis Castillo and then onto Toronto for Lyle Overbay. Rosenthal believes such a deal is a long shot, since the Jays don't appear to be interested in a one-for-one trade. Perhaps that would change if the Cubs sent enough money along with Bradley. Rosenthal also reported that the Rays have put a Pat Burrell-for-Bradley deal on the table, though they would want the Cubs to pick up a substantial portion of the $12 million that Bradley will ...
A Gross Rumor Sure to be True
Talking Chicago Baseball - A Cubs and White Sox MLB blog —
... Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal (who probably hates that he is being talked about on a blog) has a new report up about Milton Bradley possibly being involved in a three-way deal with the Mets and Blue Jays. In this deal from hell the Cubs send Bradley to the Blue Jays who send first baseman Lyle Overbay to the Mets who send the Cubs Luis Castillo. The only good thing here? A 2 year $21 million commitment becomes 2 years $12 million. ...

Mitchell: Cubs’ Billy Williams: Don’t give up on Milton Bradley
BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog —
... And Robothal on Bradley being discussed in 3-way deal … “If we could salvage something here and get a good ballplayer after what has happened, I think it would be a good thing,” Billy Williams said Monday. “I am going to continue to try to talk to him and give my opinion on what he should do and what he shouldn’t do. I know that he listens and he will tell me a lot of things.” Williams was one of the few people who maintained a steady dialogue with Bradley throughout last season. “I talked to him many times. I really, really wanted him to get through last year. I wanted him ...

Tales from Aisle 424 - A Cubs Blog —
... Luis Castillo - this latest rumor provided by Ken Rosenthal involves a three-way deal with the Mets and Blue Jays that would send Lyle Overbay to the Mets, Bradley to the Blue Jays, and Castillo to the Cubs. This deal brings Luis Castillo and his $12 million over two years to the second base position. In theory, Castillo's OBP and speed could be useful, but his defense is declining with his age, and it would take playing time away from Jeff Baker, which would be a crime, given that he was the only guy on the team who remembered to bring his bat to the park on most ...

The deal does not make sense for the Jays (going young) nor the Cubs (Ryan Theriot at second with Starlin Castro coming up in the farm system), but it makes perfect sense for the Mets as they are in need of a first baseman with gap power with Carlos Delgado becoming a free agent.

Is Orlando Hudson The Answer At Secondbase?
Amazin' Avenue —
... Some things never change: the Mets are supposedly eager to move Luis Castillo to make room for free-agent Orlando Hudson. I agree with the urge to trade Castillo, but is Orlando Hudson much of an improvement? More importantly, is that improvement worth its cost? Last season, the Dodgers signed Hudson to a 1-year deal with a $3.4 million base salary, although he made nearly $8 million through incentives. According to Fangraphs, Hudson was worth $13MM (2.9 WAR) in 2009. If the Mets want to get Hudson, they'll ...
Time now for Mets to deal Castillo
SILive: Ya Gotta Believe —
... , Joel Sherman of the New York Post says. And Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com said the Cubs spoke to the Mets about a deal for OF Milton Bradley . My $0.02: Sure, Castillo was probably the team MVP in 2009, hitting .302 with a .387 OBP, and he deserves credit for a nice bounce back. But now is as good a time as any to move him. He turned 34 in November, he's no lock to play a full season again, his range is fading, and at $6M per for two seasons, his contract is ugly. Snyder, who turns 29 in February, is interesting. He was held to 165 at bats with a bad back in ’09, but ...
Cubs Rumor Round-Up: Granderson, Bradley, Castillo, Grabow & Byrd
The Cub Reporter (TCR) | A Chicago Cubs Blog —
... There was the bogus three-team rumor of Bradley to the Blue Jays, Overbay to the Mets and Castillo to the Cubs. That was quickly shot down and the Mets say they want no part of Bradley, but Minaya did say he might talk to Hendry about Castillo. Castillo had a nice bounceback year with the bat in 2010 and is owed $6M in 2010 and 2011. He does walk at a friendly 10.8% rate for his career and that's been higher the last few seasons. UZR doesn't like his defense the last few seasons, but he was battling some leg injuries. As part of some package to move Bradley's ...
