REPORT: AL DAVIS SECOND-GUESSING OFFSEASON MOVES
Published 6/28/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports recently reported that Raiders owner Al Davis has privately expressed regret over the moves that the team has made during the offseason. Cole cites three unnamed sources who have had conversations with Davis over the past two months. Raiders public relations director Mike Taylor reacted sharply to inquiries from Cole on this point, and refused to ask Davis for a reaction. “You obviously don’t know Al Davis,” Taylor told Cole. “Self-doubt is not part of the equation with Al Davis. I’m not going to justify this tripe, this drivel by even asking [Davis] for his response. It’s ludicrous, it’s insane, it’s rumor-mongering and it’s irresponsible journalism. “The fact is, ...

Filed under: Raiders, AFC West, NFL RumorsIt's official: Al Davis is senile. According to Yahoo.com's Jason Cole, the Raiders owner is apparently questioning his ability to make personnel decisions (thanks, Javon!). He might even consider relinquishing his de facto general manager's role ... okay, he's not that senile. Oakland public relations director Mike Taylor reacted strongly to the notion that Davis would lack confidence in his decisions and declined to ask Davis for a reaction. "You obviously don't know Al Davis. Self-doubt is not part of the equation with Al Davis," Taylor said. "I'm not going to justify this tripe, ...

The Post Mortem

The most telling part of the Angels weekend happened during the seventh inning on Sunday's 1-0 Halos victory. John Lackey went to bat, with a runner on third, and the team clinging to its one-run lead. Obviously, Mike Scioscia didn't want to take out his starter. But it's just as likely that he looked at the rest of the "Punching Judys" on the Angels bench and said "Hell no." So when your hitless pitcher is a better option than Garret Anderson, that's saying something. The Angels scored one run in three games, yet still earned one win. The embarrassment of throwing an eight-inning no-no and losing was buoyed by the thought that at least a ...
Warren Sapp Refers to the Raiders as a 'Black Hole', and Not in a Good Way
Published 6/30/2008 by Ryan Wilson at FanHouse
Filed under: Raiders, AFC WestThis seems fitting: now that Warren Sapp is retired (and Jon Gruden has agreed to chair his Hall of Fame campaign committee), he's free to speak his mind, and he's more than happy to tell you about his time with the Raiders. Short version: man, that place sucked. Slighter longer, more descriptive version, courtesy of an interview with the St. Petersburg Times: Q: How would you describe your experience with the Raiders? A: As dark as a black hole. Stuff went on in that organization that shouldn't go on in sports. I don't think there's one person who knows ...
