ESPN.com’s John Clayton says the Packers are near a three-year contract extension through 2012 that will include a minimum of $27 million in new money. It can be worth as much as $30 million if he performs at a “Pro Bowl level.” Jennings was scheduled to make $535,000 in 2009. Clayton also reports that some language in the contract has to be worked out before it is sent to the NFL Management Council and signed. So it’s not exactly a “done deal” just yet. Much is being made about the possibility of Jennings becoming the second highest paid wide receiver in the league. That may seem surprising until you realize that currently numbers two and three on that list belong to Antonio Bryant (via his franchise tag) or T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Armed with that fact, Jennings coming in behind Larry Fitzgerald makes perfect sense.
