Friday Afternoon Hot Stove Rundown
Published 12/7/2007 by Gary Grund at Hot Foot
The Baltimore Orioles asked the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielder Matt Kemp, third baseman Andy LaRoche and 19-year-old left-hander Clayton Kershaw in return for SP Erik Bedard. If the Yankees package a prospect with OF Hideki Matsui, it might be enough to get SP Noah Lowry or RP Jonathan Sanchez from the San Francisco Giants. SP Tim Lincecum is considered untouchable. The Dodgers are now entertaining offers for OF Andre Ethier after signing Andruw Jones to a two-year ...

Quick Hits: Bedard, Helms, Tejada, Piazza, LoDuca
Published 12/7/2007 by McFleece at MLB Fleece Factor
The Orioles are trying to completely fleece the Dodgers in an Erik Bedard trade.  According to the Boston Herald, the O’s are asking for outfielder Matt Kemp, left handed stud pitching prospect Clayton Kershaw AND third baseman Andy Laroche.   The Orioles probably cannot get two of those players from LA, let alone three.  Boston and Toronto have reportedly given the best offers to date.  (Hey, here’s an idea: Why doesn’t Baltimore just keep Bedard?  What’s the rush?) The Marlins have offered relief pitching prospect Scott Nestor to the Phils for 3rd baseman Wes Helms, per MLB.com.   Nestor’s not a ...

The Daily Round-up (12/07/07)

Around the League: The long speculated Mitchell Report is due to come out next week. Finally… The Brewers acquired RHP Salomon Torres from the Pirates. Hardly a blockbuster… The Boston Herald says that the Red Sox are now pursuing Orioles’ LHP Erik Bedard. I don’t see the Orioles being stupid enough to trade one of the most talented pitchers in baseball to a team in their own division. Around Flushing: According to David Lennon, the Mets were in trade talks with the Giants, discussing a possible ...

Buzz: MLB Teams like Erik Bedard
Published 12/10/2007 by Matthew Cerrone at MetsBlog.com
…for what it’s worth, the buzz regarding Erik Bedard and the Mets has cooled significantly since the Winter Meetings…on other hand, it has seemingly increased for other teams… According to a recent report in the Boston Herald, the Orioles want OF Matt Kemp, RHP Clayton Kershaw and 3B Andy LaRoche from the Dodgers for Bedard. On the last day of the Winter Meetings, at ESPN.com, Jayson Stark wrote that Baltimore’s top two offers for Bedard are from the Red Sox and Blue ...

Nostradumbass strikes again! …

A phrase I like to toss around here applies well to both: “fiscal succubi.” They wait until they think you are oblivious and they swoop in and screw you out of every last penny. Then they will return and try it again and again since they can never be satiated. You cannot be in contact with them and not feel defiled somehow.
