Spain won their prestigious friendly vs. the World Champions Wednesday night, much to the delight of the 35,000 spectators of Elche stadium. In truth, the biggest victor among Spanish ranks was little man David Villa: in minute 77, the Valencia striker invented a marvelous strike from the edge of the box that not even Superman (with Gigi Buffon, not a big stretch) would have been able to save. For the much awaited test-match vs. the Spanish armada, Italian coach Roberto Donadoni dished out the list of his 21 call-ups earlier this week-end. The fortunate elects include Marco Borriello (thus confirming the Genoa striker in the probable vice-Toni role) but (unsurprisingly) not Alessandro Del Piero. If you ask me, the Juve captain will have to watch Euro 2008 from his living room telly.

On the eve of Spain's friendly against Italy, the report says that there are 59 Real canteranos playing for other clubs in top flight leagues around the world. The most famous ones at the moment are Liverpool's Álvaro Arbeloa and Getafe's Rubén De la Red, both earning their first call-ups to Luis Aragonés' side.
