STL Post-Dispatch: Carpenter experiences setback in rehab Rehabilitating starter Chris Carpenter’s next start is undetermined after the 2005 NL Cy Young Award winner suffered renewed stiffness and swelling of his right elbow after Sunday’s three-inning start for Class A Palm Beach. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Friday that Carpenter suffered a bit of a setback after a 39-pitch appearance and could not provide a timetable for when his ace might resume his throw program. ... When the club shut down Carpenter in April, it said he was suffering from arthritis in the elbow as well as spurs. Hopeful spurs were the source of his initial problem, the club now has increased concerns about the arthritic condition.
