DWil Steve McNair: A Warrior with a Capital “W” Goes Out to a “Standing O” S teve McNair’s teammates gave him a “Standing O.” That’s with a capital “S” and a capital “O” because, in professional football, when your teammates take the time to stand and applaud you, there is no better accolade; not all the MVP’s, not the All-Pro selections, not even the Pro bowl selections. A Standing O ...

MCBias Site Update
Moderately Cerebral Bias — Ok, enough fake drama, because the real news is dramatic enough. I have moved to Sports on My Mind. For the last four months, I've been quietly exploring blog partnerships with many of my favorite sports bloggers. I believe that the time when a solo blogger could make a difference is passing, if it isn't already gone. Although my traffic in the last two months has been higher than ever before, I also realized that the blogger environment was changing. Smaller bloggers were being snapped up by the big sites, or quitting the game altogether. What blog sites need are several ...

Notification of New Blog Posts
Moderately Cerebral Bias — Until the end of the month, I will be posting links I write from sportsonmymind.com here so that my readers know where I have gone. After that, there will be no new posts on this blog. I would ask that you keep your subscription to this blog, because if the new blog doesn't work out, we'll be returning to our separate blogs. However, you can feel free to take down any Moderately Cerebral Bias links and replace them with my new home. ...

Playoff Predictions
Hoops Addict — While thinking of ways to cover the NBA playoffs, inspiration struck - why not send out a mass email to my basketball contacts and get their thoughts on the upcoming postseason? The plan worked to perfection and I received feedback from more than 20 writers, spanning over 100 emails, all of which contributed to the creation of this post. I’m grateful to all the writers who participated in this by providing me with some great answers to the questions I sent out. For this Playoff Predictions posts you’ll see responses from: Brian Windhorst from ESPN.com and the Akron Beacon-Journal Matt de ...

This Week in Bloggernets: NBA playoffs are here!
Red Sox Monster — Editor's note: Yes, yes, I know. This is a Sox blog, and I shouldn't be forcing my affinity for basketball on you readers as the NBA playoffs begin . As someone who was mocked for wearing Celtics gear to middle school while the Bulls reigned supreme, though, I take great umbrage to the fact that people won't let the Celtics back in the heart. In any event, here's This Week in Bloggernets, are weekly look at some of the weirdest and most interesting things floating around on the Web. -- Old video of Michael Jordan shattering a backboard during a game in Italy. How did I never see this before? ( NESW Sports ) ...

Buzzer Beaters - 04/20
Hoops Addict — * A nice surprise this week was to see former NBA head coach Eric Musselman add Hoops Addict as one of his 20 hoop links on his official blog. * Adrian Wojnarowski wrote a great article on the fractured relationship between Byron Scott and Jason Kidd. He summarized how Kidd led a revolt in New Jersey to get his former coach canned and the article looks at how Scott refused to get into the mudslinging. Do you think there’s any added incentive for Scott to oust Kidd and the Mavericks from the playoffs? I sure do. * D.K. Wilson, the extremely talented writer whose work has played a major ...

Le Basketbawl — ... right way? I'll have to think about that one for a minute. I'm not sure RAAAsheed has ever done anything the right way in his life. Forum Blue and Gold with some game 2 thoughts. How about this thought: "Kobe Bryant is good." The Suns should start Diaw? Maybe. TrueHoop won some awards! No surprise, but so do a lot of very nice blogs. Stop Mike Lupica is on his way out! Well to here anyway. People actually listen to Tim Duncan? Not surprising. ...

Happy Cinco de Mayo
Stop Mike Lupica — What's up, everybody?  It's been two weeks since I posted over here... I've been busy trying to get the new site (Sports On My Mind) off to a good start.  I did a few posts over there on the NBA playoffs, specifically stuff on the Hawks-Celtics series, which went the full seven games, and was (as predicted) the most exciting series of the first round. ...

Perhaps Bob Costas Should’ve Invited dwil To Appear On Camera?
Can't Stop The Bleeding — In the aftermath of the fateful Buzz Bissinger/Will Leitch (above, left) throwdown on “Costas Now”, the Fanhouse’s Ryan Wilson wondered why, with the exception of Big Sexy and uh, yours truly, hardly anyone had called attention to the skilled slice & dice NPR’s Scott Simon performed on Leitch earier this year. The words “no comment” clearly not being part of his vocabularly, Leitch admitted to Wilson he was “embarrassed” by the exchange with Simon, the tendency to question the “blackness” of prominent public ...

Sports Blogs Are Accountable to Nobody!
The Big Lead — In our ongoing effort to incorporate new, fresh voices into the blog, everybody’s favorite rapper, MC Bias, drops by today to drop some science on us. You’re obviously familiar with his work at Stop Mike Lupica and Sports on My Mind. He’s always a good read. Today, he writes about the ongoing battle between blogs and the media, and his solutions. Disregard the photo - we just got swept up in some Fall Guy nostalgia this afternoon, and watched the theme song 14 times.

Commence The Blogger Circular Firing Squad
Signal to Noise — A curious thing happened to my RSS reader in the past couple of days: there was this article in the L.A. Times on Sunday that basically was the same old “us v. them” narrative about the mainstream media and sports blogging, and it made me yawn, because it was stoking the fires of the whole ...

D.K. Wilson Vs. “The White Frat Boy Sports Blogosphere”
Can't Stop The Bleeding — Sports On My Mind’s Dwil aka D.K. Wilson has weighed more than a few times on the modern state of sports blogging, but in the wake of Will Leitch’s tsk-tisking towards The Big Lead, he’s quite prepared to toss a grenade at both of ‘em. Mainstream sports media types have summarily dismissed blogs for quite some time now. Some of the dismissing has been on point; the lack of ethics in these fools’ so-called writings, in particular. But at the very same time the mainstream is brushing these people off - people who know little about sports and less about ...

Sports on My Mind, Jemele Hill, Bonnie Bernstein and You
East Windup Chronicle — Sports on My Mind is one of the better sports blogs/sites around in my opinion and often focuses on race in the sports media, which is of course a topic the mainstream media rarely tackles with much conviction. In fact, the site was the only one that I could find (besides EWC) that strongly came out against the “take him in the back alley and lynch him” comments by golf commentator Kelly Tilghman. Recently MODI, who used to write the great blog Cosellout, which was folded into Sports on My Mind earlier this year, wrote a very provocative piece entitled Sports & Hitler Pt. 1: Media ...

USA Senior Men’s Basketball Team Wins the Gold Medal Despite Ourselves
The Starting Five — Olympic torch flaming, we burn so sweet The thrill of victory, the agony, defeat… As the USA Senior Men’s Basketball Team receive their gold medals on the stand and catalog the moment, one has to wonder what type of reception they’ll get when they finally get home. After an eight year drought, the gold is rightfully where it belongs. I’m not a negative person–I assure you–but it’s hard not to feel a sense America at large (well at least the media) wanted this team to lose. As one of our readers put it in an email, ...

Signal to Noise — Shockingly enough , this is the second anniversary of this here blog’s existence, and I would argue I’ve already kicked off the terrible twos by taking off amazing amounts of time thanks to being worn out by the day job and the occasional paying gig blogging.  But that’s neither here nor ...

Moderately Cerebral Bias — Hello everyone. I've decided to resume posting here. I enjoyed my full-time experience at Sports on My Mind. Knicks Deal Crawford & Randolph, Send Shockwaves Through NBA.
Stop Mike Lupica — ... and DWil of Sports On My Mind when the conversation turned to the Knicks' hot start.  I pointed out that Jamal Crawford and Zach Randolph were both playing like potential All-Stars, and that now their trade value was probably as high as it's going to get.  They'll vouch for me.  The Knicks, and Coach D'Antoni, were purposely pumping up - inflating - their stats.  After a horrible preseason in which Crawford struggled to play in the new system, D'Antoni gave him a green light to chuck away.  The result is that Crawford leads the NBA in ...

The NFL will cut 150 jobs, or " more than 10 percent of its headquarters staff ", in the next sixty days due in part to the crumbling economy.
