A source advises me that Dodgers scout Tony Howell and Mets scout Mack "Shooty" Babitt (yeah; "Shooty," about whom Billy Martin said after penciling into the lineup 54 times in 1981 "If he ever plays for me again, please, Shooty me." ) have been spotted at the Rangers vs. White Sox series. The Mets are looking for rotation help and a left field upgrade over Fernando Tatis while the Dodgers are ... [link]

Published 7/23/2008 by Joey Matschulat at Baseball Time in Arlington
... Notes: Per Richard Durrett of the Dallas Morning News: RHP Eric Hurley appears on track to start on Sunday in Oakland. He was throwing today and getting some treatment, so I’ll find out more after the game. But manager Ron Washington is confident Hurley will start. Chris Davis has eight homers since he was called up on June 26, that’s the most in the AL since that time. Davis is averaging one home every 12 at-bats for his entire season — both major and minor leagues. Kevin Millwood ...

Blake Update
Published 7/23/2008 by R.J. Anderson at DRaysBay: Front Page Posts
The Dallas Morning News has confirmed what I reported yesterday; the Rays are interested in Casey Blake: The Rays have reportedly joined the Twins, Dodgers and Mets as clubs interested in acquiring Cleveland's Casey Blake. Like the Mets, the Rays envision Blake in the outfield and if he were to end up with either of those clubs, it can only help drive the Hank Blalock market. Blake didn't start in today's game but entered in the 8th as a pinch hitter for third baseman Andy Marte.

... and Cardinals are among the teams to have inquired about one or more of the Pirates’ star outfielders. Several teams are seeking a righthanded bat, making Bay and Nady especially desirable. The Rays need a right-handed hitting outfielder and have the chips to deal. That makes a little more sense. The Pirates were a little crazy is asking for two good prospects for a guy who is having a career year at age 29. The Dallas morning news confirms what we reported on Tuesday about Casey Blake. ...

... It’s far from an imminent move for the Twins, but anything within a week of the trade deadline qualifies as news. The Dallas Morning News did a trade story on their area team, the Texas Rangers, and mentioned a few teams that are reportedly interested in the Cleveland Indians’ multiple position player, Casey Blake. ...

Alexei Slams the Rangers: Sox - Rangers Game 2

Take a page out of Buehrle’s book, Grandpa Jo! I’m already biased in liking Buehrle more than Contreras, but there is a reason why Mark Buehrle got a standing ovation when he exited the game in the 8th. Buehrle had one of his best outings ...

Should the Indians get involved in the Huston Street talks?

After completion of the recent C.C. Sabathia deal, Indians GM Mark Shapiro implied that the team still isn’t far off from contention in 2009. In order to make that a reality, one can reason the Tribe would need to add a right handed middle of the line-up bat (LaPorta anyone?), find at least one starting pitcher who can pitch...
