... was the only hardcore postseason marathon we've had this season. But that hasn't stopped ESPN from delving into this apparent affront to fairness and cookie-cutter, whored-out-for-TV sports. Today's SportsNation poll asks several questions about fan attitudes towards Stanley Cup Playoff overtime, including "Is sudden-death overtime fair?" and "Should the NHL consider a rule that would have overtime playoff games decided by shootout?" ...

... in NHL history, and as a result, ESPN has a poll up today about how the league should handle the marathon games. I think the answers there are telling. In response to the question "How many overtimes are you willing to watch before you call it a night?" the majority of respondents, 72 per cent, said "I'll watch as long as it takes." In response to "Should the NHL consider a rule that would have overtime playoff games decided by shootout?" 74 per cent said no. Personally, I might be willing to consider a shootout after three or four overtimes, if only to spare the players. ...

Geez, ESPN, why don’t you just come out and say you don’t like long overtimes.
But can there be such a thing as too much overtime, SportsNation? Sure, it’s amazing that the Stars and Sharks went to four overtimes before a winner emerged, but did you stick around to watch the end? And is it fair to have such critical games determined by sudden-death?
Looks like true hockey fans are responding too…
NHL playoff overtime marathons or shootouts? It's a no-brainer...
