Statistically rating college players for the NBA
John Hollinger has developed a statistical method to rank College players for the NBA which supposedly does a better job of drafting players out of College than the GMs have done in recent years.

Very interesting results here, especially considering the source:  Thaddeus Young at #4, Fazekas at #7, and Brewer at #24.

My only concern is, that for every "should have known better" in there, there is an aberation as well. For example, look how low Deron Williams is ranked. Look how highly Luke Jackson is ranked with comparison to Kevin Martin and Iguodala...

As Hollinger admits, a level of scouting has to be combined with this type of statistical analysis. But it's definitely interesting nonetheless!

Houston Rockets Draft Preview
Globetrotter — ... Included below is a short list of candidates for the power forward position that would best complement Yao Ming and the Rockets new offense should they be available when Houston picks. For as much as Morey claims a wait-and-see attitude, there's an inkling that he's downplaying prospects with a purpose. Some of the selections below are based on John Hollinger's (ESPN) new rating system for college prospects. You'll have to read a lengthy description to fully appreciate the system, but the reason why it resonates to me is that all three prospects I list below were ones I thought should have been much higher than their current rankings. So how can I argue with Hollinger's findings? The draft experts seem to have it wrong ...

Hollinger: Durant Best Prospect In a Decade
insider.espn.go.com 6/26/2007 — By now, everyone knows Hollinger has his wierd statistical analysis that allegedly identifies the best team, player, prospect etc. He's come up with some thing that ranks prospects. Using his system, Durant is the best prospect in a decade, miles ahead of the previous best (Melo in '03). Of course, he has Tayshaun as 11th best in '02 and Mike Sweetney ahead of Bosh and Wade in '03. Ugh.
