Steamed in Seattle
Remember when Clay Bennett and all those rich men from Oklahoma City bought the Seattle SuperSonics? And everyone involved said no, no, no, good people of Seattle, you don't understand, these people aren't trying to take your team ! Don't be silly! Bennett made meaningful noises about being committed to Seattle. Here I'll quote him from a freakishly prescient 2006 Ted Miller column in the ...

David Stern Has Given Up On Seattle
FanHouse — ... screwed this up. At this point, there's no fixing it. Henry Abbott made a passioned plea at True Hoop this morning, urging everyone to wave the evidence in front of Stern and the other 29 owners, those who can approve or deny relocation papers for Bennett. There obviously has not been a good faith effort to get a local arena funded, and this kind of foolishness shouldn't be allowed. I agree. But there's no way Stern can stop this locomotive now. ...

Abbott: Enough With The Lying, Everybody
Can't Stop The Bleeding — ... I don’t suppose we’ll ever know the unvarnished truth behind whatever is happening in Seattle. But somebody is flat out lying. The new owners arrived in a hailstorm of happy, smiley balloons to go along with bright, shiny trophies. They talked about honoring agreements and bright futures in Seattle. If you’re someone who loves having the Sonics in Seattle, and you like being told the truth, invest in good earplugs. (If this was happening to the team I grew up loving, I’d be going a little psycho, at this point, demanding the real deal.) Take the team or not, but don’t think some balloons and trophies are going to make me just not notice — through great big faux-cheery optimism and platitudes — that I no longer have a local NBA team. ...

hoopsvibe.com 8/13/2007 — "Oklahoma City proved they can support an NBA team... They’re a perfect market for an expansion franchise and they’ll pay the 350 million dollar expansion fee. The NBA won’t let an existing team, like the Sonics, move to Oklahoma City because the league’s 30 owners won’t get to charge and split the expansion fee. Bottom line, money talks in the NBA."
Oklahoma City Sonics?
construda.blogspot.com 8/13/2007 — Dumb, yes I know, but it could realistically happen. In this story it talks about the Sonics moving out of Seattle and to Oklahoma City. Now when teams move they usually keep the nickname they are known by (New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies) in the NBA even knowing how dumb the latter three sound. Are there any lakes in L.A.? Bears in Memphis?
