It sounds ridiculous at first glance but I think you might be right. People outside of Suns fans simply don't appreciate the level that he has played point guard and led this team in his time here.

I agree.  It's really amazing - I have vowed not to take him for granted as long as he's here.

Nash has had a great career, but I think two MVPs for a guy who has never led his team to the NBA Finals shows enough appreciation.

i have to repectfully disagree, its Charles Barkley, he won an MVP in the Jordan Era, that wouldn't have happend with Nash and he took the Suns to the Finals and Nash was still a mismatch on defense even in his MVP years

I think you're right on this one. Nash may be the best regular-season player in Suns history (I might debate that as well), but his glaring lack of defense has doomed every playoff team Nash has helmed.

I think it would have to be Sir Charles, and Amare has a chance to beat out Steve before it is all said and done. Amare has his whole career to win them a championship, and he will have the title.

Nash might be a system guy. His numbers are down and Mike D'Antoni is gone.

That's another great point. People are chalking it up to age, but his last year in Dallas Nash was putting up "just" 14.5 pts and 8.8 asts. I really think the MVP voters got blinded by the D'Antoni-infused stats.

Tom Chambers, Walter Davis and Kevin Johnson also deserve some consideration. I think Mayor Johnson was actually a better point.

Seriously though, it's a tough call and I think you all have good points. Don't forget the veiny Thunder Dan!

Hey I'm as big a fan of KJ as anyone, and loved Charles when he was here, but Nash's durability, shot, passing ability and sheer will set him apart.  Charles was great while he was here, no doubt.  But he choked in 94-95.

I don't think anyone can argue that Tom Chambers was a better player than Nash...

I'm a big Nash fan, too (but not 'cause I'm Canadian, eh). He's just so much fun to watch, especially during the D'Antoni years.

So, Ben: you practically worship Nash, have a mancrush on Matt Barnes ... how do you feel about the rest of the Suns' roster?

No offense to anyone or anything but to say that Steve Nash is the best is ridiculous.  The people who are saying this are probably just too young to have actually watch Charles Barkley play.

When Steve Nash takes them to the finals this will be open to discussion.  Until then, check out some ESPN classic.

      Houroc,

lol. I've watched the Suns many-a-year before the Barkley years my friend.  I have VHS tapes of KJ, Davis, Hawkins etc.

It's not about "taking a team to the finals."  It's about the type of player and his hold on the team.  Jordan should've won MVP the year Barkley won, no one can argue that.

I would watch them again, :-) because Barkley is one of the best players ever. Forget about just the Suns.
