As Tom Werner had said yesterday, there was going to be a lot of surprises at the ceremonies and game at the Boston Red Sox 2008 home opener. We saw the four teams in Boston with representatives from their championship teams and Bill Buckner throwing out the first pitch.

It was a banner day for the Red Sox in numerous ways: the team received its 2007 championship rings, the team won a 5-0 shutout and Bill Buckner came home. Lest it be overshadowed, though, it's important to note that favorite son Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Neil Diamond both chipped in with performances for the ages. As Sox & Dawgs points out, it would have been nice to have the Standells perform, too, to complete the trifecta.
