FantasyHumor The newspapers are run by people who want a profit, and if that means cutting news and sports reporters they will do it. Sad but true. It's why sites like this are all the more important.-
BadenBall Mariotti is right, everything is entirely web based, news, commerce, movies, TV, you name it. Here in Seattle the Times had to lay off around 300 people last fall because subscriptions have plummeted. It's a shame becaue one of the people is a good friend of mine, but at the same time, I would have to say I understand since my company is an ecommerce. As an English major, I will be extremely sad if they ever decide to stop printing books. you can't sit in a hammock and read a laptop like you can with a book. It will interesting to see how this all plays out.

Jay Mariotti Resigns From His Position At The Chicago Sun-Times
AwfulAnnouncing —
... are over. "To see what's happened in this business...I don't want to go down with it.''It's probably a relief for most Chicagoans to see him go, but dammit if the guy isn't dead on in his reason for leaving. All this ultimately means is that he'll be on ATH more and coming to a podcast/webisode near you in the not so distant future. Chicago wins but America loses. Now if we could only get him to jump off that ledge in the photo above (I kid, I kid). Sun-Times columinst Jay Mariotti resigns (Chicago Tribune)

Mariotti apparently unaware that thousands of newspapers are in this "Web site business"
The Sports Hernia Blog —
... After intense, thorough research by the investigative branch of the Hernia, we've come to learn that these crusty, outdated newspapers that now former print columnist Jay Mariotti speaks of, also have accompanying Web sites, some of which resemble their own newspaper; same colors, same logo and amazingly, even the same writers. We'd like to personally thank Jay for resigning, otherwise we wouldn't be privy to such interesting, seemingly new information. But you gotta hand it to the gel-headed, eyebrow-waxed clown for resigning at the perfect time: just days after an ...

Deadspin —
Details are beginning to trickle in on Jay Mariotti's sudden resignation from the Land of Newsprint, and it's pretty much what you would expect: Jay quitting in a hissy fit over a perceived slight. According to two reliable sources, Mariotti, just back from Beijing, wanted to write a column on Barack Obama. But it wasn't Jay's turn to write — it was Rick Telander's — and Telander also wanted to write on Obama. And we know how Mariotti feels about Rick. Sun-Times says no, Jay, wait your turn. Here's Telander's column. And so Mariotti, showing the maturity he's famous for, calmly assessed the situation and figured he was not ...
Farewell, Dearest Jay
Rumors and Rants —
The Chicago sports journalism world was rocked late last night with confirmation that Jay Mariotti is no longer with us. Ironically, the most information on the move was not found in the Sun-Times, but the Chicago Tribune, with whom Jay gladly squawked without so much as an au revoir in the paper that was set to pay him millions of dollars in the next three years. You can also find a tribute to Jay's departure at the blog Jay The Joke, although I can't imagine this can be very good for business on a the site built on deconstructing Mariotti. Ostensibly, Jay is leaving his millions at the Sun-Times behind to join the ever ...

Jay Mariotti Cannot Write For The Chicago Tribune

It’s been just about three weeks since Jay Mariotti“ resigned” from his columnist gig at the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES , and they’ve been an odd three weeks for Chicago sports fans.
