Sundin Signs With Vancouver!
The Power Play —
The Sundin Watch has finally come to an end as Mats Sundin has officially signed with the Vancouver Canucks. After six long months, I never thought this day would come. Somebody get me a box of kleenex, I'm going to get emotional. The Canucks offered Sundin a two year, $20 million deal in the summer but it's still unclear if that is the deal he has agreed to or if it has changed at all. Though according to the Canucks' official website, no terms of the deal will be released as per club policy. A mystery eh? Get me Columbo on the phone! "I am truly excited to be joining the Canucks,” said Sundin. “Once I ...

Mats Sundin Picks the Vancouver Canucks
Hockey Beat —
Finally, after what seems like years of speculation, Mats Sundin has chosen to continue playing in the NHL for an 18th season by accepting the offer from the Vancouver Canucks, which is what I thought he would do.
In a statement, Sundin said: “I am truly excited to be joining the Canucks. Once I made the decision to return to play a few weeks ago, the Vancouver opportunity was simply the best overall fit. I want to thank Mike Gillis and the entire Canucks organization for their professionalism throughout this entire process.”

That groan you hear ... it's from Rangers fans (maybe)
New York Rangers Fan Blog —
Help is not coming to the Rangers in the form of Mats Sundin . With the Rangers failing to clear the cap space to compete with Vancouver's $10 million, prorated offer, news is breaking tonight that Sundin will become a Vancouver Canuck . From what we've heard, this news will actually make some Rangers fans happy. If you've been following the blog this season, you'll know this does not make us happy. Sundin was no guaranteed answer, we know that much, but we also know this: The power play still stinks, and they're still going to have trouble generating enough offense to win games -- especially games where they give up three goals or more. Though ...
Sundin picks Vancouver over NY, Canucks fans' heads explode
Puck Daddy —
Stuck in traffic headed to the Capitals game, and whaddya know: Mats Sundin is a Vancouver Canuck. One-year deal, pro-rated $10 million salary; the Vancouver Sun reports that the salary will "likely earn in the neighbourhood of $5.5 million once he joins the team after the holiday roster freeze expires on Dec. 27." Who had 6:56 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the pool? Obviously, Vancouver’s lead of four Swedes to the Rangers’ three made the difference. From Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis: "We are very excited to have Mats join the Vancouver Canucks," ...

Scarlett Ice —
Sundin Signs with the Canucks. And the sun shall rise again tomorrow. Good to see he did indeed say yes to the truckload of money the Canucks were willing to back into his driveway. He gets to play with his old buddy Kyle Wellwood! But underneath it all the most important question is clearly: does this mean I kicked Sundin to the curb from my fantasy team too soon? Discuss. We shall return your regularly scheduled Senators-related nervous breakdown tomorrow.
They’ll Be Fine
Kuklas Korner —
Well, it’s official folks. Mats Sundin has found a new home and it’s not on Broadway.
As reported by TSN, Sundin has signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks. This is someone that the New York Rangers could have used but if you think about it, with a 22-11-2 record, the team must be doing something right.
Yes, the team relies on their goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to bail them out a lot and yes, they are primarily a defense-first team. However, these are two elements that have allowed the Blueshirts to be successful the past three seasons.

Sundin's addition doesn't promote Canucks to Wings/Sharks contender status
Snapshots —
The Vancouver Canucks' status as the winners of the Mats Sundin sweepstakes has visions of Stanley Cups dancing in the heads of Canucks fans, but Canucks GM Mike Gillis tried to put the brakes on any suggestions that the Canucks, San Jose Sharks, and Detroit Red Wings now occupy the same airspace, as noted by the National Post's Dave Gross and Peter James: December 19, National Post : Gillis was reticent to conclude the addition of Sundin makes his team an instant contender for the Stanley Cup. "I don't think I'd be comfortable in calling any team a contender other than maybe San Jose and Detroit - because they [Red Wings] won last year. What we ...

Bullet points for what you missed while having nightmares of another snowstorm in Tronna. Call the army!... Habs scored five goals? [checks again] Gui!, Little Tits and Kovy all scored? [checks again] Habs score 2 PP goals? [checks again] Habs play well and beat the Flyers 5-2? That can't be right; Mats finally makes a decision? [checks again] No really, that can't be right; Sharks get crushed 6-0 by the Wings? Seriously, this isn't right. Look, I know I drank a lot at my Christmas party last night, but all of these have to be misprints, right?

--MAF stopped 28 of 31 in his comeback, Geno Malkin had four points, and the 17-10-4 Pens steamrolled the Thrashers, 6-3. It was quite an eventful night for Sid, who also ...
