... more amenable to returning on a one-year contract if Sundin stands to be his pivot? Would the Rangers be a more desirable destination for Sundin if he knows he will play with No. 68? Are they interlocking parts? If so, can Sather pull it off? Sean Avery, given permission to speak with other teams late last week, is believed to have offers in his asking-price neighborhood of four years, $16M from at least the Maple Leafs, Blackhawks and Canucks, with other suitors expected to emerge. more talk…

... , then we'd wish him the best and cheer against him next season. Given Shanny's lack of production in the season's second half, the team can save money on him by replacing him with someong younger and cheaper who can also put up 46 points over a full season. More good stuff from Brooks today in a separate entry , who reports that the Bruins may offer Hossa a ridiculous $100 million over 12 years, and discusses how the Rangers' pursuit of Sundin could impact Jagr's decision. That's the thing about this free agency period; just about every signing -- whether it's by the Rangers ...

We're just a few hours away from the beginning of "Free Agent Frenzy". Once the clock hits 12:00 PM ET, that's when teams are able to officially sign free agents. There's been plenty of rumors circulating over the past few weeks and this morning, there's a ton more. Let's take a look at the current crop of speculation around the league this morning, and, as always, take them for what they're worth. Larry Brooks- NY Post Jaromir Jagr and Mats Sundin to the NY Rangers Bruins to offer Marian Hossa a 12-year, $100 million deal Larry ...
Brooks claims Sundin will choose between Wings, Rangers

... from the New York Post's Larry Brooks: July 1, New York Post : A year ago it was about hitting fixed targets Scott Gomez and Chris Drury. This year, the free agent market that opens at noon today, is all about moving parts. The Rangers want Mats Sundin and Jaromir Jagr. They want them on one-year over-35 contracts. Jagr, who arrived in New York last night on a flight from the Czech Republic, has yet to have a substantive conversation with GM Glen Sather regarding his future. It is believed that Sundin will ultimately choose between the Red Wings and Rangers, though he is not ...
Nothing's free about free agency

[image] Let the money flow! Today at noon marks the opening of the NHL's free agency period. I'm just gonna jump right into the Rangers rumors. So far the Blueshirts are after . . . everybody. I am hard pressed to think of a big name free agent to whom the Rangers haven't been linked. Of course, we have to start with Larry Brooks . After all, he was the only guy who was predicting that Glen Sather was targeting both Drury and Gomez. So Uncle Larry says that the Rangers have significant interest in Mats Sundin, but the big, old Swede isn't expected to make a decision today. ...

Sundin for weeks has been telling his friends in Sweden that he wants to live in New York. But the defending champion Red Wings clearly give the 37-year-old pivot his best chance to win the first Stanley Cup of what has been a distinguished 17-year career. Read the entire article here. Canucks News du Jour

... Not much out there so far, unless you count Larry Brooks in this morning’s NY Post, noting that the Canucks (among others) are believe to have offered Sean Avery something in his $16 million/4 years ballpark. Can’t see it happening… but who knows. (One thing I’d bank on today is losing Brendan Morrison. Which annoys me to no end...) ...
