Suns, Celtics, Wolves In Trade Talks
ESPN's Jim Gray reports that a league source said that the latest trade scenario has Garnett landing in Phoenix with the Suns, the Celtics picking up Phoenix forward Shawn Marion and the Wolves acquiring the 5th pick and players from Boston. The trade is basically contingent on whether Marion agrees to an extension with the Celtics.

I know they were saying that Atlanta could be involved.
However, why don't the Hawks try to do a straight-up offer.

This trade certainly doesn't seem to be that serious.

Marion doesn't want to go to Minnesota or Boston, so a team would be stupid to trade for him and then lose him to free agency (2 yrs).

I also don't see why the Suns would want to trade Amare for Garnett, when STAT is younger and more of a late game player.  KG has been known to choke in late games, usually due to his unwillingness to shoot.

Wednesday (as the KG turns) edition: Wha’ happened?
Randball — ... Forgive both our eschewing of movie quote Wednesday and the obviously Photoshopped image of Kevin McHale and former Vikings GM Mike Lynn (he of the Herschel Walker trade), which was beautifully put together by Jon per our request (and originally a request of a reader). Don’t take his advice, Kevin! He might mean well, but this can’t end well! McHale, it seems, has the chance to be the anti-Lynn by getting valuable draft picks for a star player. But he absolutely must get fair value. So why don’t we take a look at the two deals that appear to have the most steam right now, according to ESPN.com: ...

Lakers haven’t abandoned all hope just yet… But Amare could change that?
The Lakers Nation — ... ESPN: The Lakers, meanwhile, haven’t abandoned all hope of partnering Garnett with the increasingly frustrated Kobe Bryant just yet. Another concept in circulation Tuesday raised the possibility of a multi-team trade in which the Indiana Pacers’ Jermaine O’Neal went to Atlanta, with Lakers forward Lamar Odom and young center Andrew Bynum heading to the Pacers. That package, at worst, would send the No. 3 pick in the draft to Minnesota as the main payoff for Garnett. ...

Plissken at the Buzzer — ... on Phoenix’s offseason last week: they’ve only gotten worse, but this trade should make it even more clear that the Suns have had a dismal summer. Right around draft night, the Suns were close to landing KG in a three-team deal, with Amare as the main piece. That deal fell through due to numerous factors (including the Hawks deciding they didn’t want an All-NBA player), and after the draft the Suns quickly fell off the list of strong contenders for Garnett. After taking Amare off the table, it looked tough for Phoenix to get a third party involved. ...
