Despite rumors and previous reports to the contrary, on Wednesday morning, the LA Galaxy announced that both Landon Donovan and David Beckham would be available to play in tonight's important SuperLiga Final.
According to head coach Frank Yallop, Donovan is the more likely of the two to start, and Beckham will be expected to play if needed. Both players have had injury issues during their heavy schedule of Superliga, national team and MLS matches, and both have been playing more than would normally be needed for ailing players. The reason for this is the long list of other Galaxians out with serious injuries the past few matches (and also for tonight), and the dire need for points in their MLS league matches. Tonight's tournament final will give them a breather from the league woes and a chance for an extra $ 1 million prize...and some pride.
Because of the injury-laden Galaxy roster, Pachuca may be favored to win, but the Galaxy has done well in tournament action and in high-pressure situations. They beat Pachuca in the first round of this tournament, and did so without Beckham and numerous others.
Tonight's match is sold out, and takes place at the Home Depot Center.
