White Sox plunder the last of Oakland’s ritches
Published 1/3/2008 by Mario C. at Wax Heaven
... The Chicago White Sox just picked up sometime-slugger and full-time David Cassidy impressionist Nick Swisher from the A’s. Swisher, who had a huge season for Oakland in 2006 is the second star to be traded away by Oakland in a month. In his best season he hit 35 home runs and 95 RBI but has never done well in the average department, with his career high coming last year at .262, while striking out 100+ times for the third straight year.

Catfish Stew: Swisher Traded To White Sox

... ", Billy Beane doesn't waste any time, does he? Nick Swisher, who in many ways has been the defining personality of the A's franchise the last two years, is now gone to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for three prospects. The A's get the White Sox' top two prospects, pitchers Fautino de los Santos and Gio Gonzalez, plus a fourth-outfielder type in Ryan Sweeney. De los Santos has a huge ceiling, but is probably a few years away from the big leagues. He's the kind of high-reward talent that we A's fans hoping the A's would get back in exchange for Dan Haren. Gonzalez is ...
Oakland A’s Wave White Flag, Trade Swisher

... , has been dealt by the Oakland A’s to the Chicago White Sox for three minor leaguers. In talking it over with Our Baseball Friend (who will show up in the comments to answer questions), we have learned this: Billy “Genius” Beane (everyone’s a genius!) has decided that with the Angels, Yankees, Tigers, Red Sox and Indians beyond loaded this year, there is absolutely no way Oakland can compete (not even for the wild card) in 2008 or 2009, so Beane just sold high on his two biggest bargaining pieces. Just when the Yankees/Tigers are getting old in 3-4 ...

... If you, like me, wondered if Beane was going to have the energy to tear down the A’s and rebuild this off-season, well… this just goes to show us, O we of little faith. ...

Swisher to White Sox The Oakland A's have traded Nick Swisher to the White Sox for 3 prospects. I'm surprised by the move mostly because Nick Swisher was not only the face of the franchise - he was also signed to a very reasonable contract ($3.5 million next year, $5.3 million in 2009, $6.75 million in 2010 and $9 in 2011 with a $10.25 million club option for 2012). Compare that to Aaron Rowand's recent 5-year $60 million contract and you can see how much of a bargain Swisher's contract is and why I'm surprised the A's would part with him. ...
A's Deal Swisher, We're Slackers

... Dan Haren to the Diamondbacks, the Oakland Athletics have made another big trade. They've sent fan favorite Nick Swisher to the Chicago White Sox for three prospects. That's their best pitcher and hitter for nine minor leaguers total. The 27-year-old outfielder, who has a history of not messing around, hit .262 with 22 longballs and 78 RBIs over 150 games last season, drawing 100 walks for a career-best in patience at the plate. ... -P- The A's have dealt outfielder Nick Swisher to the White Sox for pitchers Fautino De Los Santos and Gio Gonzalez and outfielder Ryan Sweeney. For the A's, this trade hinges on De Los Santos, who's an extremely high-upside guy with great stuff who blew away Class A last year. He's a potential star, but 21-year-old Class A pitchers are risky indeed. Gonzalez (who's already been traded from the Sox to the Phillies in the Jim Thome deal, then back to the Sox in the Freddy Garcia trade) is no slouch either, though - he had a great ...

He wouldn’t have taunted that French maid. He would have had the steak, not the chicken. And he would have brought at least one more heavy hitter with him into the brawl instead of conceding the power to a rival. But he had been cocky, a sure cover for fear. ...

... becoming baseball's dynasty of the 70's...but I stuck with them back then...and over all these many years since have continued to consider them my "American League Team." I had no sooner gotten done a post several days ago ripping A's General Manager Billy Beane for putting Oakland squarely within the same breath as the Florida Marlins when it comes to gutting good baseball teams and...sure enough...fresh off of trading star pitcher Dan Haren...he turned around and traded solid outfielder (and huge fan favorite) Nick Swisher. It's not like Billy Beane just ...

... and a fair amount of money . That wasn’t bright either. Despite overtures to Aaron Rowand and Torii Hunter, the Sox did not win anyone big in free agency. Similarly, Jerry Owens hurt himself in Spring Training, making him unavailable to Williams. This seems bad, but it’s actually a blessing in disguise as it made Williams have to think creatively. Williams sent away all the team’s prospects to Oakland and Arizona in order to get Carlos Quentin (a decent move) and Nick Swisher (a great move). He also traded Jon Garland to the Angels for Orando ...
