 Syracuse vs. Villanova - Recap - March 12, 2008
Orange done in by sloppy play, Villanova's 3-pointers NEW YORK (AP) -- Jay Wright has another uncomfortable night ahead of him, looking forward to Villanova's second-round game in the Big East tournament. Jim Boeheim can rest a little bit easier, but for all the wrong reasons. Scottie Reynolds scored 22 points and Villanova rode some hot shooting in the second half to knock off Syracuse 82-63 ... Pirates News; Big East Tourney
Published 3/12/2008 by bmac21 at Raise the Jolly Roger!
... Syracuse got rocked by Villanova in the opening 8-9 game [recap], ending chances of the Orange sneaking in from the bubble. Jim Boeheim will probably still whine when they are left out though. As if the NCAA Tourney isn't big enough. ...

... against USC.  So I'm keeping my eye on the other bubble teams, because we can't afford for any other bubble teams to go on extended conference tournament runs (or for mid-majors to be upset in the conference tourneys).  We got some good news this morning, as Syracuse was blown out by Villanova, in a game that should pop the Orange's bubble.  However, Dayton was able to avoid the upset to St. Louis, winning in OT, keeping the Flyers' dreams alive.  That said, I'm not sure you can take an 8-8 A-10 team over a 9-9 Pac-10 team.  But a Dayton loss still ...

... , waiting for an opening to strike, we secondary contributors are scrambling around trying to find something, anything, to entertain our dozens of readers. I spent much of my afternoon watching the Big East Tournament — it’s research, and thus tax deductible — and found nothing there that could conceivably entertain anyone, especially Syracuse fans. And so I must reach further…into the (imaginary) halls of power in the (imaginary) Maryland State Senate, to its most infamous (imaginary) member, ...

When does Boeheim start feeling heat?
Published 3/13/2008 by Hermano at We Suck at Sports
... Syracuse went out with a bang this year, ending their dramatic NCAA Tournament hopes in excruciating fashion, at the barrage of threes from Villanova. But chin up, Orange fans, you guys are almost a lock for the NIT. This marks the 2nd consecutive year that Syracuse has failed to make the NCAA Tournament, and only the second such time in the Jim Boeheim era (the other being '81-'82), when Jim was in his 6th and 7th year at the school. ...

Why Don't They Call Them The Big Easties Or Something Like That?

Before the season started, Jonny Flynn and Donte Greene were tabbed a Big East Co-Rookies of the Year. At least one them stayed put. Jonny Flynn was named Co-Rookie of the Year but this time he shares the honor with Pittsburgh's DeJuan Blair. Flynn ranks third on the Orange in scoring (15.9 ppg.), led the team in assists (163) and was second in steals (47). He started every game and ...

That Did Not Feel Good

Man...the stink of this game is not going to go away for a while. With less than three minutes left in the 1st half, everything looked rosy for the Orange (doesn't that sentence sound familiar). Then the bottom dropped out, the Orange starting turning the ball over like it was on fire and they went into the locker room up one instead of the eight they had been. The second half started out ...

O'Neil: Reynolds wants to be like Mike ... Nardi

Villanova sophomore Scottie Reynolds isn't a natural, vocal leader. But if he keeps playing like he did against Syracuse -- 22 points, six assists and zero turnovers -- he'll be leading the Cats to the Dance, writes Dana O'Neil.
