T. Boone Pickens $165 Million Donation To Oklahoma State Football Is Completely Gone. School In Massive Debt.
You probably heard a few years ago that T. Boone Pickens, who chairs the hedge fund BP Capital Management, gave Oklahoma State a $165 million donation to be used all for helping the school's athletic program. And the largest portion of it was going to be used to beef up the school's football ...

I've got to go...T. Boone Pickens just walked in my door...and he's broke!
Fanblogs.com — With all of the hype surrounding this weekend's clash between undefeated and No. 7 ranked Oklahoma State heads to Austin to take on No. 1 ranked and fellow undefeated Big XII member Texas, there's an interesting story brewing back in Stillwater. One that could have far broader implications than the outcome of Saturday's nationally televised tilt. Earlier in the decade, renowned business tycoon and oil man T. Boone Pickens-who also happens to be a huge OSU Cowboys fan-donated $165,000,000.00(US) to the school's athletic department. It was the largest ever to a single AD in collegiate athletic history. The only caveat was that Pickens be the ultimate decision maker with how and whom spent the money. When OSU ...

Oklahoma State Would Like to Renegotiate That Mortgage Right About Now, Please
The Sporting Blog — Oklahoma State University has this odd relationship with billionaire oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens. To be specific, T. Boone sort of owns the athletic program lock, stock, and barrel in a way that only Phil Knight at Oregon can really rival, having given the university $165 million that ballooned to $300 million dollars at the peak of its value. ...

Oklahoma State can kiss that athletic village goodbye
The Dagger — There are plenty of economy-bites-sports stories out there, but this one is especially egregious. Here we go: T. Boone Pickens' enormous wealth has long been synonymous with Oklahoma State's athletic programs. Basically, Pickens is really really rich -- like, richer than Jay-Z -- and because he donates so much of his richness to OSU, he basically is OSU. Or OSU is him. One or the other. Never was this more apparent than when Pickens gave $165 million (!) to the university for football renovations and an athletic village. Donations don't get much bigger than that. I never really knew the details of that giant donation, but here they are: Pickens demanded that his ...

Economy Affecting Sponsorships: Buick Pulling Back with Tiger Woods?
Larry Brown Sports — With the exception of hockey which seems to have declined steadily (regardless of economic conditions), the overall health of sports teams seems to be fine. We haven’t heard much about ticket sales and attendance figures dropping, not to mention merchandise sales and money spent at games. We have heard that the economy may be preventing rich alumni from coming through on their promised donations to their alma maters, and now I’m reading that sponsorships of individual athletes could be waning. Evidence Buick with Tiger Woods: GM may implement a round of cost cuts because a planned $15 billion in asset sales and savings won’t be enough to maintain its ...
