The Blackhawks' qualifying offer 'debacle'
From The Rink — ... are that this won't be a major issue, although Johnson's agent, Allan Walsh, offered these thoughts on Twitter a few hours after the TSN story came out: I don't see those messages on his account this morning, so I suppose they were deleted. (Maybe this all isn't such a debacle after all?) Still, it seems like poor organization on the 'Hawks part to not ensure everything was filed well ahead of time. Tom Benjamin says GM Dale Tallon should bear the brunt of the blame.

Martin Havlat Believes in Karma
Gospel of Hockey — ... were unrestricted free agents and didn't, as far as I know, give any verbal indication otherwise. I can see why this situation is a bit more nuanced. Offers were sent but they were late. Tallon, it seems, made contact with the players and the players, by virtue of the fact that they did not declare themselves unrestricted free agents, seemed to accept that they had in fact been qualified. It will be interesting to see if any of the players takes this decision to an arbitrator. Tom Benjamin has suggested that the agents will need to strongly defend the rights of their ...

July 4, Canucks Corner : If the player did not receive the offers in time, they did not receive them at all. If they did not receive them in time, they are unrestricted free agents. How can it be otherwise? If I represented Kris Versteeg and he had not received his qualifying offer by the deadline, I would immediately announce that my client was an unrestricted free agent and open the bidding for his services. That we ...

Blackhawks Fire Dale Tallon: Because Bowman Said So
Hockey From the Cheap Seats — ... I’m not saying that Tallon is above criticism. In fact, there have been a few moves that are going to hamstring this organization for a few years. Cristobal Huet’s contract looks like it was WAY too much considering it was Nikolai Khabibulin that led the Hawks in the playoffs last season. Brian Campbell is probably the 3rd or 4th best defenseman on the team, yet his contract says he should be one of the 3 or 4 best defenseman in the league. Marian Hossa’s contract is so long, it’s possible that the Los Angeles Kings, ...
