... in Wednesday, Tavarez was predicting October baseball for the Red Sox and extolling the virtues of doubleheaders -- even if he's never heard of Mr. "Let's play two", aka Mr. Cub. "I don't know who Ernie Banks is, but I hope he was a good guy," Tavarez said. "I'm like him, I hope." Don’t know who Ernie Banks is, eh? Well okay maybe that’s somewhat reasonable, after all Julian was born in the Dominican Republic two years after Ernie Banks retired from baseball and it’s not like he’s had a lot of direct contact with Banks’ legacy. Wait. What’s that you say? Julian Tavarez actually played for the Chicago Cubs in 2001...and yet he’s still never heard of Mr. Cub himself? Makes you wonder if, during his two years in St. Louis, he ever managed to figure out who that big statue was in front of Busch Stadium…or if he even remembers playing in St. Louis at all. Reminds me of that old baseball adage - every team needs a guy who is completely and utterly insane. [

... who the hell Ernie Banks is. Not long after the Red Sox's game against the Tigers was postponed because of rain Wednesday, Tavarez was predicting October baseball for the Red Sox and extolling the virtues of doubleheaders -- even if he's never heard of Mr. "Let's play two", aka Mr. Cub. "I don't know who Ernie Banks is, but I hope he was a good guy," Tavarez said. "I'm like him, I hope." Yes, he was a good guy, Julian. He was also one of the greatest players to ever set foot on a baseball field. Jeez man, ever heard of Wikipedia? And it's not like Tavarez is a youngster or anything; the guy's been in the big leagues for 15 years, and he even pitched for the Cubs in 1993. Not to get all preachy, but shouldn't baseball players at least have a rudimentary understanding of the game's history? Call me crazy. (HT: Red Sox Monster )

... JT Killer: 7 innings of pure dream death, dancing around four hits and four runs to surrender a single run. The man who loves double headers gave Boston exactly what they needed on the mound on double header day: a whole pile of innings that saved the bullpen for tonight.
