Suns Examining Mustached Former Player, Bucks Fall Guy for Coach
Published 5/16/2008 by Matt Moore at FanHouse
Filed under: Suns, Western, PhoenixSo it has come to this. Two years removed from an appearance in the Western Conference Finals, the Suns are now examining Lakers and mustache/glass combo legend Kurt Rambis (first reported here and then by ESPN.com) and former Bucks coach and current Pistons assistant coach Terry Porter for their now vacant head coaching position. Not Avery Johnson, not Rick Carlisle, not Larry Brown. Two assistant coaches who were replaced in their last head coaching ...
Suns interview Terry Porter

... Bucks fans generally agree that Porter got a raw deal in Milwaukee, getting canned after just two years on the job despite advancing to the playoffs his first year. But that experience, as well as his last two years on the Pistons bench, can only help make him a better head coach the second time around. ...

The Bucks might have actually been back to perennial playoff appearances again. If the Suns pull the trigger they will get a hell of a good coach. ...

... for their head coaching position. When asked by Bright Side of the Sun for thoughts about TP as their new coach, I drew some comparisons between TP's running the early 1990s Blazers and how that experience might help him as Suns coach. As a Blazer, he successfully managed an up-tempo game, maximized the benefits of a lumbering big man, and developed his talent through pure, hard work. Given the makeup of the Suns roster (Nash; Shaq; Barbosa and Amare), I think you'd agree that all three of these skills are big time positives for the Suns. ...

... Up until about 30 minutes ago when over my morning coffee I read about Flip Saunders getting canned I was all but certain that Kerr's tea leaves were coming up Porter.
We heard from various sources that the Suns wanted someone with head coaching experience and of all the candidates that meant Porter. He had a solid run with the Bucks and has an outstanding reputation in the league.
Now, with this morning's news is the apple cart over turned? Will the Suns be interested in Saunders and/or will Porter be tapped to lead the Pistons?
In the ...
