Two days after finishing a season in which they ranked 27th in points allowed, the Houston Texans have fired defensive coordinator Richard Smith and two other defensive assistants. The Houston Chronicle reports that head coach Gary Kubiak fired Smith, who has been his defensive coordinator throughout his tenure in Houston, as well as defensive backs coach Jon Hoke and defensive line coach Jethro Franklin. Houston Drops The Hammer From John McClain of The Houston Chronicle : The Texans have fired defensive coordinator Richard Smith, defensive backs coach Jon Hoke and defensive line coach Jethro Franklin. Smith, who was under fire from fans and media this season, was the coordinator during Gary Kubiak’s first three seasons. Kubiak is expected to conduct a search for Smith’s replacement.
