Yesterday was a seminal day in baseball history. When it was announced that Chris Carpenter finished second in the National League Cy Young voting despite not being named on two ballots - yes, two whole ballots - the game of baseball was irreparably changed, and not for the better. It may be ...

... Yesterday was a strange day, especially (I'm guessing) for Keith Law and Will Carroll. After a few hours of thinking about them, I finally realized, "Hey! That could have been me!" If I'd had the ballot, I probably would have left Carpenter off mine, too. And all those guys on TV and the radio and the Internets would be saying terrible things about me . I've gotten a bit of that over the years, mostly in New York. But never on a national level. * Wezen-Ball takes a first stab at satirizing the over-the-top reactions of those pundits who are just so sure that ...

I won't skewer them for their decisions. I might disagree, but at least they provided the insight required to understanding their views, whether or not we choose to agree with them.

Two great visuals from the World Series to start us out. The first is the Gigapan Photo. This thing is ridiculous. They had this at the inauguration as well and it's just another reminder not to pick your nose at a big world event. Zoom in and see what I mean (one thing that is confusing is that the picture was taken over almost an hour so while the players are celebrating on the field, some of the fans may be in their seats). The second is from the New York Times and is a time-lapsed view of the World Series. Both are really awesome. And if you want to go see the World Series DVD, Mets ...

A couple of awards were announced this week, and a few remain for next week - when I should be able to produce a lot more content, since I'll have a week off from school. (Thank you, beyond-stupid school district.) Anyways, the first few links are about the recent controversies that have been occurring in baseball.
The Carpenter Travesty - Wezen-Ball
Excellent satire. Ironically, the BBWAA got almost as mad about Law and Carrol as the sabermetric community gets when the rest of the writers mess up awards.
