The race portion of ABC's coverage, from 6:15-7:11 PM, drew a 9.0 rating with 14.6 million viewers, making it the highest rated and most watched sporting event of the weekend, ahead of two NBA Finals

Despite the possibility of a Triple Crown winner for the first time in 30 years, the race portion of the Belmont averaged a 9.9 overnight rating on ABC, up 183% from last year, but down 37% from a 15.6 in 2004 -- the last year a horse had the chance to win the Triple Crown.
Overall, ABC's coverage averaged an 8.6 rating, up 177%
