Andrew Bogut: 'The Public's Image of NBA Players is True'
Published 6/19/2007 by Brett Edwards at FanHouse
Andrew Bogut is apparently not looking to make friends. There's a lengthy interview with the Milwaukee Bucks' big man in the Sydney Morning Herald , and in it Bogut sounds pretty critical of what he sees as the lifestyle of most of his fellow players. Here are some choice quotes form the article that leads with saying that Bogut remains a "modest all-Australian boy." "The public's image of NBA players is true. A lot of them get caught up in the hype and do video clips with rappers and all that crap. They want bling bling all over themselves and drive fast cars. But that's just the way the culture is in America - if you've got it flaunt it and if you don't, you can't." "I'm not into jewellery. I've got some earrings but they're not too expensive. There are guys who drop a hundred grand for a chain. The public's got it right - a lot of NBA stars are arrogant and li ...

Bogut, Bling and the Surprising Lack of Media Coverage

... Blinded by the giddiness of the NBA draft and impending free agency, we completely missed a significant story: in a wide-ranging interview, Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut trashed NBA players and the league’s culture for spending excessive amounts of dollars on material goods, cheating on their wives and being terrible role models. We can’t tell you enough how much we love candor from athletes, and this is a perfect example. ...

Irritated Aussie

... Bucks top guy. Scoff if you like but I quoted his numbers on the season above, and I think most fans will acknowledge that we are coming to the beginning of the end to the Michael Redd era in Milwaukee. I expect him to be involved in a trade by the end of next season, if only maybe to appease Bogut in a way (with the Bucks screwed in the salary cap game until the end of the decade a blockbuster Redd trade may be the only way to really shake up the roster). We've already heard about his opinion of the NBA lifestyle, and I seem to remember some incident earlier this year in a ...

... players when he was in Shanghai and remembers “how one member of the Aussie federation said he believed the Americans were in “deep s—” because they hadn’t brought enough big men, weren’t shooting particularly well and seemed extremely overconfident.”
I wonder if Australian center Andrew Bogut was the one who offered his opinion of Team USA’s lack of size and what he may perceive to be as overconfidence?
Bogut has openly criticized American born players in the past.
