Pro football is also the most profitable sport on the planet (mean operating income in 2006 was $17.8 million on $204 million in revenue). Although its ...

Raiders beat 49ers — in Forbes’ franchise value list, anyway
Morning Buzz — Forbes just published its annual list of NFL franchise values, and surprise surprise: For the second consecutive year, the Raiders outrank the 49ers. Granted, Oakland is 28th and San Francisco is 30th in the 32-team league, but I would imagine this is going over with some chuckles in Alameda. The Raiders actually passed the 49ers last year ($736M-$734M) and widened their gap this year ($812M-$799M). That wouldn t seem to make a lot of sense to anyone who has watched the on-field product in those past two years, but it s all in the real estate. From the writeup on the Raiders: The Raiders took control of ticket sales for the first time since returning to Oakland from Los Angeles in 1995 last year (a county-run organization previously held the job). The result was a 12% attendance boost fueled largely by season ticket sales of 37,000, up from 29,000 the prior year. The ...

The "C" on the jersey is stupid
bleedinggreennation.com 9/13/2007 — When the NFL first announced their new captaincy initiative, which involved putting captain's patches on a team's 5 captains, I was intruiged by it. However, seeing it in action this past weekend I think most would agree how stupid they look. Rather than just go with the simple C like in hockey, the NFL opted for this garish block with a goofy looking C and 4 stars inside it. Not only...
