... care, Sharpstein said, and his girlfriend and child were not injured in the attack. Sharpstein said Taylor was sleeping when he heard a noise in the living room. The intruders were at his bedroom and Taylor reached for a machete or other form of knife he keeps nearby in case of emergency, and two shots were fired, with one striking his leg.“Right now he’s clinging to life and we’re all praying he makes it,” Sharpstein said. Many fans who read the bad parts of his past are going to jump to conclusions that his dangerous past led to this current incident. The following from ...

The Mike Wilbon Blogs/Sean Taylor Debate
Published 11/27/2007 by TheBigLead at The Big Lead
It seems as if everyone is reading the weekly Mike Wilbon chat house Q&A, and some folks took umbrage with two of his comments Monday - one was in reference to bloggers, the other was in regards to Sean Taylor’s (RIP) checkered history. This is what ticked off at least one blogger: “There’s a ton of speculation about the details of his condition and the details of the incident, but this isn’t a blog and we’re not going to get into wild guessing and speculating here, though we will try and responsibly discuss other ...

If We Can Bring Up Sean Taylor Ever So Quickly
Published 11/27/2007 by Matt Sussman at The Futon Report
... Much ado is stewing over Michael Wilbon’s comments yesterday, (“Taylor grew up in a violent world, embraced it, claimed it, loved to run in it and refused to divorce himself from it”) and it gets into a discussion I don’t particularly feel like having, namely because I don’t know much about it. So let’s just let the police do their thing, the family have their privacy, and see what else is going on in sports. Because I like sports. ...

Special comment.

The death of Washington NFL safety Sean Taylor can be labeled many things -- not the least of which is tragic. In the eyes of several in the media, however, the murder has been given another label: unsurprising. Three Washington Post writers, Leonard Shapiro , Tony Kornheiser , and Michael Wilbon , have each expressed this sentiment, believing that Taylor being murdered in his own bedroom was some sort of karmaic payback for his past misdeeds. Shapiro begins his Washington Post column hearkening back to a rookie symposium he attended, in which " a series of skits ...

Wilbon and Shapiro Are Scum

I have read what the Washington Post's Michael Wilbon and Len Shapiro have to say about the tragic murder of Sean Taylor and I have to say, they ar e the lowest human beings known to mankind for their callous words about his death. Michael Wilbon has already gone on record as twisting facts about Sean Taylor by saying: I know how I feel about Taylor, and this latest news isn’t surprising in the least, not to me. Whether this incident is or isn’t random, Taylor grew up in a violent world, embraced it, claimed it, loved to run in it and refused to divorce himself from it. Due to this last bit, reminded immediately to readers the day of his attack, as well as some on-field issues that Sean Taylor has had, a narrative has developed about a young, troubled man who struggled with demons that perhaps finally caught up with him. Colin Cowherd on Sean Taylor
Published 11/29/2007 by Dan Steinberg at D.C. Sports Bog
Colin Cowherd on Sean Taylor One of the dominant questions sports opinion types have grappled with this week is this: Was Sean Taylor's death a surprise. Famously, Michael Wilbon and Len Shapiro both said no. This struck me as a needlessly provocative and confrontational way to approach the story in its opening days, and frankly, I don't believe that they weren't at all surprised. I mean, really, someone told them that the day after a big Redskins loss in Tampa their best player had been critically shot in his bedroom in an upper-class neighborhood Miami, and they weren't at all taken aback? They weren't at all like, "Whoa!," not even for a few seconds? I knew Sean ...
