Cano Vs. Upton
Published 1/23/2008 by Steve Lombardi at WasWatching.com
Eric SanInocencio and EJ Fagan battle it out, over Robinson Cano versus BJ Upton. Check it out at Rays Anatomy.
As a 22-year old, last year, Upton had 29 RCAA and an OWP of .667 (in 548 PA). As a 22-year old, in 2005, Cano had -5 RCAA and an OWP of .471 (in 551 PA).
Clearly, Upton wins the battle of the 22-year olds here.
In fact, during 2006 and 2007, Cano failed to beat the RCAA and OWP marks that Upton posted this season. While I still want to see a couple of more seasons under Upton's belt, he's already shown that he can post a better offensive ...

Rays Anatomy: The “Great Debates” — BJ Upton vs. Robinson Cano Ok, ok, so it’s not as sexy as the Shapley Curtis debate...it’s still pretty hot. Fagan: ...Robinson Cano’s monster 2006 season - .342/.365/.525 - was much less luck-driven. His .359 BABIP (expected BABIP: .319), a 19.9% line drive rate and a 12.3% HR/F aren’t unsustainable. That year, he struck out just 54 times in 122 games. His major hurdle to overcome in 2007 was a lack of walks - which to an extent, he solved for. His .306/.353/.488 line came when all indicators point to a down year. His line drive rate ...
[THE HANGOVER] Don't Expect A Let Down, BJ Upton Is That Good

... runs and line drives. Plain and simple, the guy hits the ball hard. More fly balls will end up as home runs and more balls will be rated as line drives. It is natural to be skeptical of breakout performance such as Upton's. But in this case, the regular stat line does not lie. Upton is that good. He will continue to strikeout a lot, but it will not keep him from becoming the first 30-30 player in Rays history in 2008. Upton or Cano?

... Eric at Rays Anatomy has a fun post up debating the relative merits of B.J. Upton and Robinson Cano. I’m pretty squarely in the Upton camp on this one. Cano is a terrific young player, but much of his value is tied into batting average, and second basemen don’t always age well. ...
