    Minor point: Griffey's option year has a $4 million buyout, so not employing him only saves the Reds $12 million.  But given that he's probably no better than a replacement level player as long as he's patrolling the outfield, it's clearly a good idea to let him walk and hope he qualifies as a class-A free agent.  Unless, of course, they can get good value for him in a trade...but I'm skeptical that anyone would pay for him at this point.  -j
